This is the master thread for all post-release feedback for the Blackpool Branches: Preston - Blackpool & Ormskirk Route Add-On. Gameplay Guides: Blackpool Branches Gameplay Guide
Great route and loving the Pacer but passengers aren’t disembarking the train, they just pop out of existence.
This is probably more a problem with the new scoring in general, rather than just Blackpool, but on the very first service via Journey mode I may have been busy typing the above feedback and missed a station stop... so was surprised to still get a platinum medal, in fact I scored 7,413 against a platinum target of 4,850 so it would have been pretty much impossible not to get the platinum medal. Platinums were advertised as 90% of potential maximum score, I really wish it were the case as currently there is zero skill involved in getting them.
PS5 - Numbers on the GMPTE Orange Pacer aren’t displaying properly. Currently listing as 012345. Edit - seems to only be affecting the unit I’m driving. AI displays correctly. However, I’d also like to add that the route is absolutely tremendous. Everything is instantly recognisable and the feel and atmosphere is phenomenal. Well done!
Loving the route. The pacer is amazing, bouncing around with the new suspension physics. Noticed reverb on this route under bridges.
Absolutely having a blast top job by everyone involved right from the sensation of a drag when applying brakes in original engine SCG setup pacer through to the awesome touches like door controls and even the classic compressed air sounds on door operation another thing I really like is the traditional old school feel no wsp just you sliding off platform and pace jerking with wheelslip in stormy weather and true to the stream time just flying by hard to imagine its hour Preston to ormskirk beautiful surroundings if I had to sum it up in couple of sentences 1. It’s a holiday without leaving sofa 2. It is absolutely fantastic to drive and use throughly well done everyone involved
Platform: PS5 Service no: 2J54 - Blackpool North - Manchester Victoria Time: 20:03 Issue: The timings for arrival at Layton are incorrect. You start the service from Blackpool North at 20:03 and yet the timings say arrive at Layton at 19:08. Other than this little niggle, I'm enjoying the route so far.
Not had any time really to dive into it properly, but I did manage to do a fast service from Preston to Blackpool N. Aside from the Vectron & 158, it has been a long time since I sat in a train on TSW and thought ‘wow’. On the face of it, the 142 is nothing special, just another 2 car MU, however those of us who were lucky enough (to be unlucky) to have rode a pacer, know what those little (insert undesirable description here) were like to ride. Prior to TSW 4 I’d of thought it impossible to really recreate that sensation. Hats off to both JT & DTG here though because the 142 in TSW is replicated as the demon it was. It’s noisy, screeching & bouncy. The squeal combined with the suspension & even more so the track joint jolts & sounds really throw you into the cab of this unit. On PS5 the haptics take that one step further and honestly, it’s an experience unlike any other in TSW. Already commented this in another thread, but the content overall is impressive value, the liveries, locos, detailing on the route & WCL substitution is usually something we’d only get via a route DLC & gameplay pack along with a livery pack. That’s not even including the various sounds for the pacer. There are 2 things that do bother me though, the first is that the performance on PS5 seems to be an issue, the majority of my run struggled to achieve 60fps, and FPS was inconsistent throughout. I think the overall route choice will become an issue, most of it is quite bland (even though it’s very detailed blandness), but the Blackpool end along with Preston are quite busy and do leave a satisfying ‘arrival’ sensation. That being said, JT have done the scenery and details great justice, and if anyone was to make this route, I think JT have proven they were the best choice. Just to add another design choice that I really liked (even though I don’t use it), unfortunately my HUD keeps resetting despite me turning it to minimal, however I did notice that the alert UI displayed a sunflower for AWS, which I thought was really neat. Also, the announcements on the 142 is a massive improvement over the 385. Overall, this is by far one of the best DLC’s I’ve had in TSW for a long, long time. Considering this is also the first from a new Third Party dev in TSW too, it’s really quite an achievement & they should definitely be proud with what they’ve done. I haven’t covered so many of the details such as realistic busses, AI guard buzz & dispatch whistles, BR & RM vans, station details etc. I could go on & on with all the things I love about this route, but I don’t even have enough time to play it, let alone type about it. Just a note on the era too, if ever DTG come out with ‘BR doesn’t sell well’ again, please take reference of this, because this is how BR (hell, all content) should be done. Well done JT team, welcome to TSW! & well done DTG for your work with it too - get that suspension into the rest of the content because it really is a game changer.
Looks like I will be buying this later on when Steam goes live, then. Appreciate the feedback folks. Just one question and following on from concerns in the other thread(s) - any issues with motion sickness while driving the 142?
I have cab sway at 125% and didn’t get any on my 30 minute run. That said I don’t suffer from it generally, such as VR/Eye tracker sources in other games. In TSW it was slightly different though, almost hypnotic on the 75mph area's. Personally I wouldn’t be going for 200% sway (or any higher than 125 really).
Only had time for a quick run in the Class 47 at lunchtime. My potato of an Xbox handled it perfectly with none of the lagging or crashing issues that have affected other recent purchases, even with multiple trains and creators club liveries in the Blackpool area. A great era, well executed by Just Trains. Looking forward to getting stuck into it later.
Excellent route all round, The scenery is fantastic and the Pacer is a joy to drive. The sounds are well balanced and, DTG take note here, AWS warnings that are loud and clear and not badly looped on PS5. It can be done. The suspension bouncing is a little over the top and doesn’t seem to fit very well with the normal cab sway, it appears just a bit too bouncy. Anyone who is worried that the Pacer accelerates like a Porsche had better take their Porsche back to the showroom as it is clearly broken, the Pacer is just as slow and sluggish as it should be. Lovely to see a new feature, the passenger announcements, working well straight out of the box, something that other developers should strive for, no half attempts here just something that works well. I’ve driven the whole route and tried services with a few locos (in the timetable) and I’ve so much yet to try, and as always a bit of advice for anyone driving passenger services with the Class 31 (a layered train), be sure to change the brake timing to Passenger in the number 1 end cab. This route is a triumph.
Only completed 3 services, but initial thoughts are a very well made route and train. Preston pretty well populated, suspension makes a big difference in realism. Announcements pretty much how they should have been done on ScotRail Express, simple and easy to use. Only annoyance thus far is passengers disappearing rather than exiting the train but otherwise seems very good and the bar by which routes should be judged by. Well done Just Trains
AtherianKing’s first impressions review Feedback from: Xbox Series X Only completed 2 services thus far (I was a bit late starting today) and the 142 tutorial and route intro. first thoughts are this route is very well done and definitely not rushed out, haven’t found a single issue as of writing this. Stations are very nicely modelled with plenty of things to see and visit, lots of areas to visit at both Blackpool north and Preston (probably others aswell just I’ve mostly been down to ormskirk so far) I’ll give a final piece of feedback once I’ve played a lot more in the coming days. I’ve seen no reason to hold of on purchase of this route, Ive very happily found no Z-Fighting so far on the 142 aswell so hats off that I can use this loco before that gets fixed (edit 2: have found a slight bit on the wording “press windscreen wash”, somehow I only noticed this on a night run, not sure on that, completely understandable that’s meant to be a core issue and not for JT) I’m yet to use any other loco on this route as of yet as I have been working through journey mode at least to begin with. definitely looking like it will be a 5/5 review from me. Well done JT edit: I even could see the Blackpool tower heading down the ormskirk branch way off in the distance. route scenery is on another level, real top class stuff
i agree with what has been said in other posts. well done JT. the only disappointment for me is the passenger situation i.e not leaving trains on terminating trains, lack of passengers on trains for instance i did an intercity express which was supposed to have come from Bournemouth going to Blackpool north, it only had 5 passengers onboard a 12 coach train, hmmmm and then they did get off at Blackpool. im on PS 5
To JT/DTG Only: Would love to buy this route, but cannot until Raildriver functionality is applied to the Class 142. Can we have an estimate for when this will happen. Not a difficult fix from what I understand. ( please no replies from the peanut gallery. I want to hear from DTG or JT. )
it was mentioned in Mondays stream by JT Thomas that they want to or have it in the post release patch.
Thank you all for the initial feedback for Blackpool Branches, and I'll ask you to keep it coming! We're very glad to hear you're loving the route, I've listed all of the issues mentioned above and ticketed them to share with both our and Just Train's development teams. We'll also be continually logging issues commented on this thread and mentioned throughout the community
I have only scratched the surface with the route, playing the Pacer scenarios and the 08 one they did live but by 'eck it has lived up to the excitement which I had built up in my little head. As I said in the other thread the pacer really weren't the focus for me but I am loving it as it's such an immersive experience, and I usually turn my nose up at scenarios too! I do think everyone at JT deserves a long night out at the pub with the drinks on DTGs executives because this route is really one of the best, in fact no, the best route in TSW ever - it has got glorious scenery (I think whoever said 'detailed blandness' has it in one), a well made unit, various liveries for the included locos and may layers meaning the variety of this route is unchallenged. I really am loving it, so I think I'll go back and do a couple more bits and bobs with it. There hasn't been anything so far that has stood out as being something to complain about or even mention. Absolutely brilliant.
Loving it. From the moment I walked in to Preston Station in the intro I knew it was going to be good.
What can I add that hasn't already been said. This route is what TSW has needed. I removed all mods to make sure I was getting the standard experience and I'm really impressed. First the variety of stock included without having to buy a gameplay pack. The route feels alive. Second the attention to detail in the scenery is just next level. The station buildings are just fantastic especially the partially derelict one, I could spend hours just looking around. We also have proper lineside clutter. Third the suspension in the pacer really adds to the immersion, more of this please. I found I was really focused on what was going on which I haven't experienced in any other route or train. It performs very well, usual TSW pop in, but the framerate is solid which considering the level of detail and amount of traffic is very nice to see. Very well done JT, this is next level. Best route in the game. Now - my one negative - please do add Raildriver support in the post release patch. I was a bit disappointed to find out it was missing yesterday, but did did appreciate you replying to my question on your stream, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear. To end on another positive, the Skipper is pretty much how I remember it from it's brief time down in Devon. Bouncy, loud and screechy. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this DLC - Took me back to my final year at college when they both appeared and disappeared in the South West.
OMG This is the best Train Sim World Route ever hands down Just Trains have done a great job on this one after doing my Livestream just now for my First look i have to say Thank You to all the team that worked on this i so can not wait to see what u will do next
I did ask you not to reply, but you obviously can't help yourself. In any case DTG Alex already responded. Have a good day.
This is by far the best UK route in the game for me the scenery is outstanding I just love driving the Pacer the suspension bounce is a brilliant feature hopefully more locos get it hopefully we get more routes like this in the future overall very impressed well done just trains
Only issue with it so far is the passengers. Not enough passengers at Preston, and passengers getting off the Pacer just dissappear, rather than getting off.
Not sure why you needed to be rude to them, they were relaying information directly from who you wanted information from.
"Let the fun begin." Only just played the very informative route intro, and I'm already excited. I never doubted JT's excellence, and it feels good not to be disappointed. Thanks to the JustTrains team for this one!
Anyone else having stuttering around Blackpool north Station. Happens a lot when another train is arriving.
PC player also. Didn't have any stutters around Blackpool, do you have all the routes that layer in stock? I don't have WCL.
First look at Blackpool and love it. And I haven't driven a train yet! What is glorious is the total immersion. This is more than just driving the trains, this is being in the time and place as well. It's the little things. I love the way the introduction starts outside the station, so that you have to walk in. Which perfect as that is what you do at the start of a journey - you walk into the station. You look around, get your bearings, maybe look at the departure board, go to your platform. I did that - and caught a train to Blackpool North. And there are so many places to explore. You can walk into so many rooms! It is so frustrating on other routes where you can look through windows into rooms that have been beautifully crafted, but cannot get in (thinking of Edinburgh here!). But on this route you can - and you get great surprises. The view from the offices above Blackpool North station is terrific! The result is that I felt much more like I was actually at the stations than I think any other stations on any other route. The difference between Blackpool and Preston here and - say - half-arsed efforts like Nottingham or Leicester on Midland Mainline, is like night and day, just off the scale. I remember Preston from the 70s and 80s because I frequently changed trains there and... this IS the Preston station I remember. It is orders of magnitude better than stations like Leicester, London Victoria, Paddington and even Brighton on other routes - all of which I once knew quite well - all of which are through a glass darkly in comparison. Just Trains have a reputation for quality and detail and they have delivered here in spades. More, please! Just give me more!
Agree - scoring is still way too easy, and not just here. Everywhere. If you have all the warning systems on you're guaranteed a Platinum regardless.
You're aware every place you're visiting for the first time needs shader compilation, second run should be fine then.
Done first night service, can even see a hint of track infront of you which is nice & like that the tower is visible from so far away. Question on the pleasure beach though, passed just after 10pm and no lights on it, is that correct?
Yea I have all routes. It's while looking around from left to right you get a stutter. When a train arrives it's not smooth and the odd stutter along route.
First impressions are the route is good, GMPTE livery is missing the logos and just has BR double arrows. Was there a licencing issue using it from the now TfGM? Odd things evident with passengers such as train is nearly full then is almost empty without said people getting off they just seem to vanish. This in my opinion though is one of the best routes to date. Crying out for a Class 150/1 in original Provincial livery though!
quick question I’ve been wondering with this, is it every time the route gets loaded or just a one off for each route ?
