"You nay already be aware that we had an incident yesterday on site, as the Model Railway coaches were entered and vandalised, which resulted on the coaches catching fire. On realising what had taken place, Members of the Model Railway Group and Society were visibly shocked, that we should suffer such an incident. All the hard work and funding which has gone into the Model Railway was well discussed. There were tears shed by many who were on site. People were consoling others. It was a difficult day. Yvonne MacDermid Chair, SRPS" https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce991j48q72o.amp As a volenteer myself. This is very sad to see. I do hope the Model Railway group can restore this but it'll take time. Alot of hard work and effort had gone into making that and it got destroyed almost instantly by vandals in a fire. Really sad news that. Image:BBC News
Very sad to see & read about this & such mindless vandalism. Hope it all gets up & running again soon.
My goodness Nathan mate, that is absolutely disgusting. It must be really soul destroying considering the amount of time and effort that went into building the models, and then the coaches themselves too. What overall state are the coaches in, will they be salvageable? Also what coaches are they as they don't exactly look MKIish to me, though of course I could be wrong.
I didn't mean any sarcasm (although reading my post back, I can see why it could be read that way. I struggle to respond to saddening incidents appropriately - and it's even harder through the medium of expressionless text!) I am sure the others did not mean any sarcasm either.
Again no sarcasm on my side either, it must be genuinely soul destroying for all involved in the railway. Reading back I do see how it could come across sarcastically, but that is one of the limitations of writing!
I'm not entirely sure. I'll check it out on Saturday but from what I've seen on the photos it doesn't look good.
No. Definitely not lol. I mean as a joke I wouldn't put it past the volenteers to get revenge. They wouldn't tho. They are sensible. I am joking. This was definitely not a betrayal.
Oh, that does not sound good. Do you know what the coaches are? It may say in the link you provided but it doesn't seem to want to load on my computer (or my mobile earlier). Sodding BBC!
There was a link? *checks* There was a link! According to the link, the Police have released descriptions of 2 suspects.
Oh my goodness. Not sure if I should say this here but the description for one of the men seems awfully similar to a man that I dealt with at last years diesel gala. He had a go at all the train crew including me because: A: he couldn't smoke on the train B: he was told off for having half his body out the train. (Fine if it's just your phone or a bit of your head in a safe area but nothing below your mouth is what I advise. Though the SRPS doesn't want any customers hanging out the windows so I was quite lenient.) C: He did not buy a ticket before boarding the train. Pushed his way past me to get on. And then got fined once onboard. D: He had a go at all the staff cause I asked him politely to sit down and not smoke on the train E: He had a go at the catering staff because we could not offer him alcohol. (Think we ran out) He kept shouting and complaining that he wasn't coming back here again. He was in a right mood and seemed a bit dodgy. Told me to "fck off" and I wouldn't e suprised if he tried to take revenge by doing that. It surprises me that it was an adult and not the local youths tbh. Not the sort of thing you'd expect from someone around 30 years old.
Oh my word - what an experience! I am with MaxBenchip - if you know anything, go to the police (although, having never needed to do this myself, that may be easier said than done).
This is my club, never in a million years did i think something like this would happen. Beyond gutted.
-> Crowdfunding to restore the Bo'ness model railway after vandalism and fire. We thank you for all your donations on JustGiving <- Donate if you can.
Good job. Though when I looked the other day to see the fate of the Market Deeping vandals who wrecked several layouts, they basically got off with a warning. Not saying lock them up and throw away the key but needs to be a bit more justice in these situations. A minimum of a year in youth detention would be a step in the right direction… Also sadly, no matter how much money is raised it can never replace unique layouts or models that took years to craft particularly if the modellers may no longer have the eyesight, dexterity or even willingness to start over.
Definitely! Yes it's quite a shame. Thankfully some survived as the model railway group brought some onto the diesel gala services but it's still shocking to see and sad that it won't be the same.
