Perhaps more of a question for our American friends: I really enjoy driving the F40 and GP38 locomotives, and would like to know more about them. Can anyone recommend a physical book that describes the design choices and history? Not just tables with data, but also in words, preferably with nice pictures. A chapter on the function of all the gauges and dials in the cab (in lieu of a proper game manual) would be a bonus!
Don't know of any regular books but on this site, you can find the manuals for many real locos (including the requested F40PH and GP38-2). They include quite detailed descriptions of the locos and their workings as well as all of the controls. I think it's quite fascinating to read those.
Just noticed. That's a shame. I have also found this site. Like the other one, it's an assortment of operator manuals but not as expansive. I've also found the following: SD40-2 Manual GE Evolution Series Manual SW1500 Manual Hope that helps somebody.
