The borders railway is a 35 mile long route operating from Edinburgh Waverley to Tweedbank with some stations including Newcraighall and Galashiels. There are 2 trains that operated here in the 2015/16 period including the class 170 and class 158 The class 170 is a turbostar diesel multiple unit (DMU) operating for ScotRail, Northern, etc. It was manufactured by Bombardier in Derby between 1998 and 2005. The first of the units entered service in 2005. The class 158 is an Express sprinter DMU operating for ScotRail, First Great Western (GWR), etc. It was manufactured by British Rail Engineering Limited (aka BREL) in Derby (again) Between 1989 and 1992. The first of these units entered service in 1990. Tweedbank station
I think this might have been suggested a few weeks ago, but good shout. Even better would be wen it was the Waverley route through to Carlisle but probably too long for a TSW route.
Good point and the whole line to Carlisle is 98.25 mi 158 km surpassing Sherman Hill 76 miles 121 km by 22 mi
The Waverley Route probably has one issue, being a long gone route there's a chance reference may be limited, especially as many parts of the line are blocked off today (For Example, Kelso, on the former Kelso Line/Branch, the area where the track ran is now covered by a bypass). Although, it's an interesting concept, and would be a good shout when steam comes. Also, the route was suggested a few weeks ago, by myself
Well yes probably too long in its entirety for TSW, unfortunately. As regards research, well if DTG are serious about Spirit Of Steam and putting routes in a proper historical setting, that's what books and old maps are for. Kuju built the original S&D for Rail Simulator and various historical routes have appeared subsequently for Railworks (TS) - Weardale, Port Road, Woodhead etc. All require research which cannot be undertaken necessarily by a site visit.
