Ok, so soundset #3 has arrived, and to put it bluntly, it’s as bad as the previous 2. The horn is genuinely shocking. That noise belongs only in a gore film. It’s hard to sum up what’s wrong with it overall, I suppose the only thing to ask is, who signed off on this update for it? You get diamonds like the Vectron & then you get stuff like this. This has genuinely got to be one of, if not the, single worst piece of rolling stock in the game.
I uninstalled it right after I tested it. I gave up, I was frankly not shocked by the atrocious sounds we had, after two years of promised fixes by Scamhook. Between each sequences of acceleration there’s some silent pause and I’m not talking about the running sounds, that gives you a good headache. Anyway it’s gone to the abyss of the worst DLC ever and only PC players, can enjoy it with some decent sounds mod.
It's from Skyhook - honestly what did you expect? And I'm being serious here. A company that released the awful BR187, the HSC with the horrible ES44 (sounds, light bleeding through deflectors, wrong dynamic brake physics), Cane Creek flipped bogies, the unfinished MML (including their shady propaganda guy) plus they dared to put textures like this into a UE4 game. Ultra settings I might note - that might not be obvious.
If you remove the whole HUD, we might think it’s a screenshot from Rail Simulator. Anyway I’m not expecting much from them, same for the so called “MML update” for consoles.
I mean what else did you expect honestly? It is safe to say the DB BR 187 is the worst locomotive in TSW. It's not worth a penny
I used the soundmod in Tsw2 I used the soundmod in Tsw3 I will use the soundmod in Tsw4 No annoyance from my side. So the first attempt was an 1:1 sound copy with a giga master excuse (no recording because corona). Second try was a failed implementation of sounds and those were beyond for what would be "expected" from an update. So now 1.5 years later they failed with a 3. Attempt and still no recording? I have 3 mods to make this loco to my expected standard, i even forgot how disappointed i was after release back then.. If you cant use mods, unfortunately this loco only does its job as a.i traffic.
It's good that there's a robust PC modding community to pick up where lacklustre developers have dropped the ball. Make sure the mod developers know how much you appreciate their work. They turn mud into pottery!
Thanks for the heads up. Apart from the 204, the only German loco I haven’t bothered to buy. Will leave it on the shelf to rot.
I’d be interested in knowing which three mods you use. I love the exterior looks and cab of the 187, it’s mainly the sounds and the dysfunctional headlights setup that I don’t like.
I’ve resigned myself to this being an AI only train. At least I got it in a sale. Another chance for Skyhook to show that they do care about supporting their products gone. Can’t wait for Just Trains release. They’ve communicated well. Shown what they can in advance and have reacted to feedback. Fingers crossed that if it turns as good as it looks certain other 3rd parties will up their game.
Shame really, one of my favourite German freight locos IRL (more so than the Vectron), I was really hoping that DTG taking over it, it would be a huge improvement. I don’t like leaving such an informative feedback thread, but honestly just using it should be more than enough to realise something is very wrong.
With the mods from the tsw community website, this loco is immersive to drive. (The sounds make the difference) - 187 soundmod - 187 mini enhancement - (cant find it currently, a mod which added the correct pictograms)
Hadn't DTG said that they were working on the audio solution themselves? I seem to remember that it was like that, although I'm not entirely sure of it. Once we tried the new sounds, it's a little better than what we had, but it's far from good. The audio quality on this locomotive is atrocious, the worst on TSW. After driving a marvel like Vectron, with the great work that has been done, driving the BR 187 becomes a very unpleasant experience. I hope they don't entrust the work of any locomotive add-ons to Skyhook again. For me, the worst TSW third party developer.
Ok yesterday I was considering whether I should reinstall the 187 even if it's just for extra traffic. Safe to say I'll leave it for now and save the storage and memory for BPO.
Well that's unfortunate. Yeah you should be careful what you wish for, the original Br185 sounds were usable and didn't destroy my ears, had to uninstall 187 as it subs in on AI trains often too..
Skyhook very much sound like a Mickey Mouse company. So many promises, so many bare faced lies. Can’t believe the 187 sounds are still bad - what the heck is going on at all?
I haven’t bought any Skyhook DLC and by the sound of this feedback, likely never will. What happened to their person telling all the big porky pies. I hope they shown him/her the door. Chocolate teapot comes to mind.
Guess it's destined to remain AI traffic only. Serious question- are Skyhook still extant? Since the flurry of activity on here after the MML launch it's been complete silence. Did DTG pull their 3rd-party agreement, maybe? Honestly might be for the best.
They really came through with the 158, however that was the result of several developers. Skyhook has since gone very quiet from the MML side of things & DTG took over patching it, so something definitely happened. Going by their products alone I have lost all confidence in them, but the turnaround since MML released & got its first (borked) patch has took them beyond redemption IMO. I’m sure they’ll pipe up again when they have something new they want to sell.
For me it is just an nice looking AI train, but I will never drive it myself. Sound and headlights are still so bad…
I tried this for myself and disappointed to confirm OP's review is accurate. The headlights please need to be switched positions too. The headlight position was recognised as incorrect on the Vectron pre-release and corrected by DTG in a matter of days yet the 187 has been incorrect since launch on 14 October 2021. 2 years later and Skyhook have done nothing about it. Finally, the window tint is far too dark and ruins the driving experience further.
The model of the 187 looks pretty decent. It’s a real shame it sounds LOVE or I might have bought it - if only for AI purposes.
Yup. The 158 is really good, whoever built it. Agree they'll probably be back to sell something in a few months and then disappear again.
That alone is enough to make me stay away from the loco. Still haven’t bought Hamburg-Lübeck precisely because of the 112’s wrong headlights.
Still, the baked ambient occlusion is very pixelated and looks bad. The TSC Armstrong Powerhouse 158 looks waaay better, you can set the destination board, comes with a load of liveries, and it doesn't have you seated miles away from the controls which is an absolute immersion killer for me, my head being behind the side windows.
Just see what dunkrez is doing for TSC, that HST is awesome and puts TSW to shame. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/vp185-hst-cab.72861/
Jeez… that’s some dedication here ! It’s really magnificent with high quality details, and not just smooth and clean surfaces like it’s brand new.
Took it out for a quick spin yesterday, hoping against hope that maybe the negative reports of the "improved" sounds were exaggerated... alas... Deleted this DLC and giving up on it. I'll just get the Vectron next month. I believe it subs in on most German freight services as the 187 does. Shame about the money wasted, but I guess it's a lesson learned.
