In the background at 00:50 - a V 160 clearly wearing elfinbein/purpurrot. Although I know they pulled TEEs and ICs on non-electrified routes (the Munich-Geneva for one) I didn't know any had been assigned semi-permanently to the IC pool, enough to justify a re-livery

Date is the late 70s/ very early 80s

Before DB decided on their new paint scheme, in 1974 they got one 218 each delivered in the two schemes they were considering: 218 217 in beige/red, and 218 218 in beige/blue. The blue variant "won", but they didn't repaint 218 217 until many years later.

This doesn't mean that 218 217 was an InterCity loco or anything. Honestly, an "InterCity pool" wasn't even a thing back then. They used this loco exactly like any other 218.

Just to add to this. 218-217 was not the only loco to have those colours over the years. Some time in the 2000s some were repainted. As far as I know one more 218 and at least the first two 217 (but they were already named br753 then).

    Thanks!

By "IC pool," I meant the rolling stock which up through the 80s was used pretty much exclusively on TEE and IC trains- the VT 11.5s of course, the 103s, 110.12s, and the first two generations of Rheingold/TEE/IC coaches. These were all painted beige/crimson (except the second-class coaches after 1979, as I learned here), and weren't suitable in livery or appointments for "normal" trains.
