Buttons across the top of the screen affect contrast and brightness.

Guess what? For some reason the brightness buttons don't work in the BR442.

The "half moon" button should turn on night mode.

Which 442 version exactly? Thanks to DGT's approach there are 3 variants - RT, SKA, DRA. That said, I have been able to change the display modes on all of them, never had an issue with it.

Well, as of right now I am driving the DRA 442 and of course the contrast works, but the brightness button doesn't change the actual brightness. Which is a pity, because I've started to like the 442 recently but the day-screens (white display) are way too bright as they are. And I'm quite sure the button also doesn't work on the SKA one. Haven't touched Rapit Transit in ages though.

Ahh, right, you want to control the brighness level, not just bright/dark mode. That I have actually never tried, I always switch to dark mode as I simply like dark mode everywhere.

yes, thats what I wanna do :P I usually prefer bright during the day and dark during night, duh. Just a little annoyance for me but it'd kinda make the 442 a lot better to me if the brightness would work as well... As far as I know it doesn't work on the ICE 3 either. And other trains also have some problems that e.g. bright mode only partially works, as the letters stay white, on a white background. Oh well, thats TSW2 for you. I still like it ^^
