1st As loco's go the br class 33 is down at the bottom of my prefered loco list (It's just not worth 20.00).But since the br class 52 the other WSR add on found it's way into the GWR diesel legends dlc. This makes one wonder why the br class 33 never returned for another go at it.With DTG love of recycling trains it's surprising that this loco never yet been reused. Note:Yes i'm aware that there are a few other locos on the only one use so far list but this ones stand out for being around since the early TSW 1 days.
Maybe because it dates from an earlier era than just about anything in the game other than its WSR running mater the 09?
It would be perfect to be resurrected on a 1970’s-1990’s southern route. If they must do more southern third rail then please make it non-modern.
I do think it is wasted on the bore fest which is the WSR. It is a very good model, looks and sound wise despite its age. I would love to see a period route for it, obviously it would need to be altered to be in its pre-preserved condition but I am sure that isn't that onerous a task. Something like Portsmouth/Salisbury/Bristol or Salisbury to Exeter as the 33's were used on that service before the class 50's.
Shame it’s never even turned up as a Rail Tour layer elsewhere. It’s such a good loco and as much as I love WSR, it’d be great to stretch its legs above 25mph.
Hmmm? Now that i think about it just what did this engine do while it was in it's regular service operation?Shunting, yard work, branchline duty, goods trains, passenger trains, mine or quarry work, dockside switcher, factor shunter, scrapyard shunter, steelmill shunter, car&lorry ferryboat terminal railcar loader&unloader, assembly of trains for mainline locos waiting at stations.?
Spot on but if you look at the WSR Class 33 its Blue Star MU equipped for Southern Region Class 33s these are 33/1 due to SR MU equipment. WSR Class 33 if Blue Star MU is working will control WCL TVL Class 37/5 Huddersfield Line NTP 40 & 45 locos and TVL Classes 20 & 31 locomotives since they are blue star MU equipped like the Class 33 WSR. SR region can't MU with WSR Class 33 since it's SR MU equipped although it's possible to combine a 33/1 SR mu with WSR 33/0 Blue Star MU. Wikipedia has a list of UK Loco MU codes
Most of the above, to be honest! They were versatile locos, used on passenger and freight work. They were fairly restricted geographically, to Southern England (although they got as far North as North Wales on scheduled services, and further when deputising). I think the reason they’ve been underused is just that DTG don’t make routes from that era anymore, and when they did they weren’t set in Southern England.
West Coast Railways still have a few Class 33s that are used on railtours. A diesel railtour pack for various routes (similar to the WCL Steam Railtour) with a maroon liveried Class 33 (Class 37 and 47 also available) and some Mk1 coaches with a modern taillamp would make for an interesting low priced add-on, similar to the ROG 37 and RHTT. There is a similar pack available in TSC with a Class 57 in a fictional 'Rail Tours Company' livery imitating West Coast Railways.
I had wondered whether we would get it on either BML as a pseudo Brighton Belle rail tour or on the TSW3 update to ECW when they added the 52 to the rail tour service there
As said there were very versatile and in the 80's were venturing onto the North Wales coast as well as working on their native Southern region and onto the Wester Region in South Wales. There were push-pull versions used with 4-TC/class 432 sets on the Weymouth trains before the Bournemouth to Weymouth electification. They were sometimes used on the Barnstaple branch. They worked a lot of the channel tunnel freight trains when it was being built. I have seen a picture of one in EWS ownership in Aberdeen. Still as DTG seemed to have put a block on doing any BR period routes as apparently they aren't popular enough for the accountants it looks like we are stuck with it on the WSR unless we use the so called scenario planner.
A railtour on BML hauling NTP Mark 2's would have been nice. In the early to mid eighties these locos worked far and wide on 3 day cyclic diagrams from Eastleigh. Pompey to Cardiff, Cardiff to Crewe/Manchester (even Holyhead if my hazy train planning days recollect), down to Swansea and West Wales Milford Haven and Fishguard.
Is the br class 33 in livery editior as well? I don't own it and i don't remember seeing any in the custom livery section.
I'd love to see it layered in on Railtour stuff, I've used it a couple of times on Scenario editor and will do again in the future.
I think class 40 should be implemented in other routes as well, since it has very limited service only on Transpennine and GWE, I like it a lot by its unique sound
So unlike what you had said before you have just said it can be used on other routes!! The one on WCL isn’t just a rail tour either!!!
