Class 91s are British high speed locomotives built for the ECML History: • The Class 91 locomotives were developed in the late 1980s as part of the electrification of the East Coast Main Line, a major railway route connecting London King’s Cross to cities such as Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Leeds. • This electrification project aimed to replace diesel locomotives with electric ones, which are more efficient and environmentally friendly for high-speed passenger services. • The Class 91 locomotives were introduced into service by British Rail from 1988 to 1991. They were manufactured by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at Crewe Works. Technical Specifications: • The Class 91 locomotives are 25 kV AC electric locomotives designed for high-speed operation. They feature an advanced design for efficient performance. • Power and Speed: • They have a power output of 4,830 horsepower (3,600 kW), which is essential for hauling heavy passenger trains at high speeds. • The Class 91 can achieve a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h), making them one of the fastest locomotives in the UK. This speed capability is crucial for reducing journey times on the East Coast Main Line. • Wheel Arrangement: • These locomotives use a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement, meaning they have four axles, each with its own set of powered wheels. This setup enhances traction, stability, and the distribution of weight across the rails, ensuring smooth and safe operation. • Aerodynamic Design: • The Class 91 locomotives are known for their sleek and aerodynamic design, which helps reduce air resistance at high speeds. This design feature enhances their energy efficiency and contributes to their high-speed capabilities. • Regenerative Braking: • Class 91 locomotives are equipped with regenerative braking systems. Regenerative braking captures and converts the energy generated during braking back into the power supply system. This not only saves energy but also reduces wear and tear on traditional friction brakes. Liveries IC Swallow LNER swallow
We really are crying out for some 225s to compliment the Azumas. Lets hope DTG will deliver. We don't really get 90s on freights round here, 66s hold the reigns with a few 56s/69s and 60s dotted about.
Brilliant suggestion, the Class 91 is a must-have for ECML at this point in time One question though: Would you add the special liveries i.e. 91110 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight' or 91111 'For the Fallen' or will the pack not come with those liveries included?
Yeah, good point, that's exactly what I'm getting at as they aren't included in the original suggestion
I would pay £25 for this. A LNER VTEC Livery and the LNER swallow would be better then the IC swallow as 2 swallow liveries aren't necessary.
This would be Awesome. have to have at least a BEF senario in there! and maybe a 140 'test' run using those fancy signals! Additionally DG have europheonix licence so the twin class 91 units could be assembled as a working pair. I know they were never commercially used as a freighter but maybe hauling a couple of rare stock movements or freighter on the ECML. Maybe as an special senario rescuing a stuck 225 set requiring them to be shunted out of the yard at doncaster an stabled on a platform before being run down to just outside Grantham where they push the stricken 225 set into the outer platform where pax are disembarked before dragging the empty set to Doncaster yard.
