So I own the following German routes:
    Frankfurt-Fulda
    Kassel-Wurzburg
Koln-Aachen (including the New Journeys add-on)

I thought about getting the BR101 to add some extra variety in the services you can do on these routes as well as AI. I am also imagining with the Koln-Aachen timetable update there will be more 101 services added to that. I don't have any interest in getting more routes at this stage.

For the original 101 DLC it seems you also need to own HRR to unlock the 101 on these routes. However, I noticed the Expert 101 is on sale on PS5 at the moment. I can always turn off the expert mode in settings to just do some services without all the extra stuff the pros have to do or the random faults (but may return to that at some point as a challenge). However, the description on the sale page seems to suggest you need to own Salzburg-Rosenheim and/or Dresden-Riesa to utilise the Expert 101. I know that Frankfurt-Fulda comes with an Expert 101 timetable from TSG so if I just bought the Expert 101 in the Playstation sale would this unlock that timetable or would I have to also buy Salzburg-Rosenheim and/or Dresden-Riesa?

Steams is obviously not the same as PS5, but on the Steam store page is says that Salzburg-Rosenheim and Nahverkehr Dresden are recommended DLCs, not necessary DLCs.

IIRC, the purpose of the Training Centre was to "liberate" locos from their home route, and it looks like they've achieved it with the BR 101 Expert, since that came after the Training Centre was introduced.

But all this is just guesswork to get your hopes up - someone who knows for definite should chime in. IF you consider getting one of the routes, my suggestion would be Nahverkehr Dresden (Dresden-Riesa). More variety, branch lines, scenery variation, native trains than Salzburg-Rosenheim.

There are separate timetables for die Expert 101:
    At release:
    1. Rosenheim - Salzburg (the Scenarios are all there too)
    2. Dresden - Riesa

Later they made additional Expert 101 timetables:

    3. Bremen - Oldenburg
    4. Fulda - Frankfurt

It seems that the Experte 101 and the cabcar will appear after the big Köln - Aachen update there too.

In Kassel - Würzburg and on Tharandter Rampe the Expert 101 is available in the normal timetable (but without the IC Cabcar).

Figured out that the 101 Expert timetable for Frankfurt is a bit smaller. Especially the 3 AI BR 363 at Frankfurt Hbf left.

So if you buy the Expert 101 you can drive it on a separate timetable for FFA and KWG without having to buy any other DLC? Just trying to work out the most cost effective way to try this loco.

You have to have all that 6 routes to drive the Expert 101 there.

If you look about the cost effective way, then buy the DB BR 218. It costs a half of the Expert 101. And it's available at around 10 german routes.

You definitely don't need anything else for any route which has a dedicated Expert Timetable, ie Frankfurt - Fulda, Bremen - Oldenburg, Dresden - Riesa, and Salzburg - Rosenheim.

On Kassel - Würzburg, I would assume that the Expert 101 subs for the standard one, so you would need that one.

It is available on quite a few routes, yes. That's not actually prototypical for most of them though.

Not prototypical. But you can see it seems relatively often even on electrified mainlines. Especially pulling engineering trains. So it's very good to have that iconic loco in TSW.

And since yesterday day it authenticity of rolling stock is not so important on TSW anymore. :)
