I’ve just completed the 1W23 11:20 Paddington to Great Malvern stopping at Slough and Reading. Approaching Reading platform 9 and still around 200 yards before the red light and 5e end of the platform the train brakes hard to a stop and you can’t correct it. You still complete the service but the last two carriages are not on the platform. Is this a known issue?
Do you have warning e safety systems on? If so, you may are entering the platforms above the speed limit, so TPWS will stop you. This happens only at Reading however Paddington should have it as well, for some reason it's not working.
I never knew this, thank you. Do you know how close I must be before the TPWS activates infront of a red light?
Around half the platform away you see the same grids between the track that you see close to signals. Those activate it.
There are grill like ramps on the track a certain distance before every signal and buffer. Here’s what they look like. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tpws_loop.jpg#mw-jump-to-license
