Switching in Barstow the old fashioned way... Your assignment is to grab a string of boxes to add to your tanker train... Riding the stirrup while reversing through the yard... "Two cars" "And stop!" "Bring it in". "You got em, pull ahead to re-hook EOT".
Running up the yard - Nice view of the bridge - Coming in to shut 'er down for the day - See ya Dave -
Glad to see I'm not the only one doing this, lol. When doing switching, I like to move the fixed outside camera near the railings on the freight cars to somewhat pretend being a brakeman while reversing.
I was trying to do something like that. I am now on the top of a tanker as my train goes to Cheyenne. I messed up.
Uh oh, don't get caught doing that you'll get fired ;-) The trick to getting to a stirrup or deck is to aim your free camera using the target dot to the location you want to end up then make the small adjustments when you're there. I usually try to adjust for reasonable human height and a safe hold or position once in place. It helps if you've actually done this as it gives you a better perspective of how you would be positioned or the view you would have. It's not quite perfect in TSW but you can get close enough to make it look fairly authentic. Brakemen are the ones all over the place with the best viewpoints sometimes -- left window, ground, stirrups, decks, stairs, between cars, in the caboose, &c &c. Good luck, have fun with it. Coming in the back door...
Out for a smoke on the walkway while waiting for a signal change... About to climb aboard for shift...
Climbing into the MP15... Riding the stirrup to gather the end of the train... There it is, just where we left it! ...
Rainy view out the cupola window... Waiting for the Southbound to pass. Some days are so beautiful out here... Hangin outside the loco looking for the fish jumping while switching the tipple...
