Has anyone had issues with the brakes still on for the class 37 for WCL? Whenever the loco is uncoupled the brakes are mysteriously still on enough to where the loco stops if not given enough throttle. Yes both train brake and loco brake are fully released before anyone ask that question.
What do the 2 gauges say? One is for pressure, one is for Vacuum, both have to be pointing straight down, if the vacuum side is showing some in/HG then equalize the pressure with the vac valve which I think is by the 2nd man's seat.
The 37 has a problem whereby when you decouple from the wagons for some reason the brake type switches to Air rather then vacuum. This causes the brakes to remain on no matter what you do Go to cab A and look on the second man's side (the other side from where you site when driving) and look on the back wall. There's a rotary switch there which changes the brake mode, I usually set this to Vacuum Goods Then, when you go back to the driver's seat look at he brake gauge and everything should have pressure and you're good to go
OK, just loaded up a freight run on West Cornwall in the 37. Went to cab A and looked at the brake setting and it looked like this: Down and right means "Vacuum Goods" Unhooked from the wagons and then back to the brake setting and it had switched to: Now down and left, AIR goods. Into cab B and drove off, looking at the brake dial and the brakes are not released. Taking power off makes the loco stop almost immediately Back to cab A, change the setting back to Vac goods and now the brakes charge properly and the train drives normally
