The firsts units of Stadler EURO 4001, has just arrived to Uruguay - my country -, being the most modern diesel powered locomotives in South America!. Their will be used by a private company called "Portren". This private train, will be managed by a brand new company, which one of the owners is "DB"! Hopes this modern Stadler locomotive, - but also the hybrid "Euro dual" power model - be available on TSW3 soon! Please find attached some pictures of them:
Nice colours and speaking of the operator it's the Uruguay National Railways and DB. For the Euro Dual DTG needs the help of Third Party RSSLO since they made it for TSC
Nothing replaces six axles, right? What´s the application? Heavy freight (Celulose)? I´m a bit surprised to see European rolling stock in South America. It used to be an US domain when it comes to equipment.
Yes you are right. This is due to Class 99, is the model name used in UK, for the similar locomotive sold to us, made by Stadler too!.
No, in Uruguay the trains were built by the English in 1878, but much years later (1952), they become the national railroad company. Owned by the State. Now there is new era, where the state built a completely new route - with latest technology - and can be used by any freight company. Or passenger too. Of course they have to pay for the use. In this case the Stadler where bought by company integrated by 3 Europeans ones, which one of them is DB. But DB is in charge of the operation of the trains. The locomotive drivers will be trained in Germany.
Yes they will be heavy freight, servicing a cellulose plant, from a Findland company, installed in Uruguay.
Looking at the UK Class 99 and Amtrak ordering Siemens Chargers, it seems to me that the US doesn’t have quite the monopoly on diesel electric locos anymore that they used to.
Well...please notice, it is not the first time we have European trains... at least in Uruguay!. On 1977, we received brand new train sets from Hungary's Ganz-Mavag brand. Those train sets included a locomotive + one (or two or three - depending on demand) second class cars, and a first class (with food service) cab car at the end. Please find some pictures of them. Please notice, despite of the fact they were European trains, they have automatic coupler -like USA- instead of traditional buffers and chain
I believe that too. But there please notice USA locomotives are common on Canada, Mexico, - but also Brazil-, and also some others countries in Latin America or Africa.
As to freight locomotives, the state freight company, purchased in 1993 brand new GE C18-7i.They were built in Canada. But after the last one was finished... unfortunately that factory closed! Please find below a picture of one of the General Electrics, on their original blue and yellow paint scheme: Please also notice the freight cars - like boxcars - are European, as they were built in Italy.
Those GE locomotives were completely rebuilt in 2021, getting an brand new Caterpillar 2000 HP engine, plus other technological improvements - in this case the work was done by GE Brazil, and they also received a new "debatable", mostly yellow paint scheme. So they are ready to use the brand new route too.
So if UK is receiving also this great Stadler freight locomotive, it would be great if DTG make it available for TSW3! We have the classic 66 six axle one, but it will be great to have a newer model. Only issue could be the license for GBRf! Hope they can get it.
