I don't understand why the GP40-2 hasn't been brought into the Preserved Collection. If the ACS-64 and Amfleet coaches were able to be brought in, I don't see why the GP40-2 can't be. The only glitch I got with the GP40-2 when I used it recently was when you blast the horn the bell would turn on and you couldn't turn it off. When they put the ACS-64 and Amfleet coaches into TSW2 I feel like they just needed a upgrade and bug fixes so I don't see why they do the same for the GP40-2. Also I think the steel coil car should be added back in.
The reason why the gp40, nec ny and its dlc didn't port over is cuz it would have required a complete rebuild. From what I found, dtg used a different method to make the dlc, so they couldn't port it over. It would have required too much work in terms of physics and sounds. If you remember when tsw2 released, the plan was to start fresh with no legacy content porting over but people got really angry in thr forums and lots of nasty things happened, so dtg had to port over every single piece of dlc in like 6 months or something. And the gp40 and other dlc that ported over required a rebuild that dtg didn't have time to do so it was better for them to leave it out. Regarding your comment about the acs64, it had to be rebuilt from the ground up and you had to pay for it in boston sprinter. With that being said, it is better if it came with its own route and built according to tsw3 standards. Same with the ny nec route. Rebuild it, extend it even, etc.
It may look the same but it's actually not. I don't know the freight locomotives but no two trains will ever be the same. It's like comparing the 165 and 166 which are very similar but everything else is different from the sounds and physics and modeling differences. It might have different dimensions and modifications and other differences so not as easy as copy and paste. Different physics and sounds. Like I said, a rebuild from scratch is necessary as also mentioned by dtg.
The GP38-2 and GP40-2 both use the same frame (As alot of EMDs from the 38, 39 and 40 series did) the only major external difference besides road specific features were the rear radiator fans on the back of the long hood, where the GP40-2 has 3 while the GP38-2 has 2. Granted, the simulation side of things would have to be changed to match a GP40-2 performance, but it would probably take aroind the same effort to make a GP40-2 from a GP38-2 as DTG did to make the SD40-2 into an SD40 (Which had different trucks and a shorter frame)
Good idea but why not make them in two versions a CSX One and Cajon Pass BNSF Version? Achievements are shared between the two versions if Made. Think of Press 155 Bremen Oldenburg counting towards RSN 155 achievements NTP Class 47 counting towards WSR Version achievements Yellow and Black BR182s (future OBB 1116/1016) counting for the Red Version True Taurus 1820km achievement.
Yeah I think when you buy a locomotive DLC you should be able to use it on other routes where it would make sense
You are correct and that way it can be applied to GP40-2 if made as a livery pack as BNSF CSX Norfolk Southern & Canadian National. The way it's done is that it has to be tagged to training centre. That way it avoids the TSW2 TSW2020 issue of requiring the route then DLC locomotive to run on other routes. My most spent hours on a DLC locomotive turns out to be ÖBB Baureihe 1016/1116 Dispolok Baureihe 182 on Bremen Oldenburg.
CN uses GP40-2LW's and GP40-2W's, the image shows a MEC one but this is how a one looks like. It's just a GP40-2 with wide cab, same as the SD40-2W.
Canadian National has some regular GP40-2's and GP40-2R's, under either Grand Trunk Western, Illinois Central, or Wisconsin Central.
