Finally! Now for the older Sprinters (which are hot and noisy and very much not up to modern expectations)
This is what TVL Needs because in the 1980s pacers were ordered to replace the ageing class 101 dmus. Just needs a 1989 paint to fit into TVL
I used to travel on a pacer every day to work (thankfully I usually got a 125 back) and they were horrible trains. The ones in Geoff’s video at least have proper train seats. The ones I travelled on were like buses inside as well. Good riddance to them in my opinion. Having said that, I often drive one in TS2021 so there must be a bit of nostalgia in my head somewhere.
My most vivid memory of them, aside from having the unpleasant experience of travelling in one, is arriving in Cardiff Queen Street in the rain and seeing one parked up in the greyness bearing the nameplate mentioned in the video "Sir Tom Jones" (not even a metal one, a sticker!), and I couldn't think of anything that could be more of an insult than being told you were having a train named after you only to discover it was one of these things. Here it is, in all its horrid bleakness.
I’ve got to be honest I much prefer a National bus.( A Leyland National bus was the name of the bus who’s body the original pacer used )
One thing to be said regardless of what side of marmite debate people on regarding pacers there’s no denying the pacers reliability hence why they in service so long
They were never that reliable - they had a complete new drive train and engine fitted after less then 5 years in service, and reliability wise they were always sub 10,000miles per casualty (problem causing a 5 min or more delay) - for comparisons the 159s were around 150,000 mpc
Pembroke to Swansea on a bus seat fitted 143 was nauseating, the full nodding donkey experience. They are a fitting monument to the government of the time and their attitude to the railways.
