Depends if people find humour in mocking the name of a senior railway engineer who died unexpectedly.

There's a long UK tradition of naming engines after respected railway staff. This is just an example of that. The list includes great loco designers, popular shed supintendants and staff who died saving others.

There's also a living Richard Mabbutt on Linkdin.

You know it's not a great idea being habitually offended by everything on the internet, if that's the path you choose for yourself it'll be a very distressing and miserable existence.. Lighten up fella! I bet D i c k (it's his name auto censor ffs!) heard more jibes about his name in his life than anyone can throw his way after his passing, I highly doubt it offended him then and I'll bet last weeks dirty socks it wont upset him now..

It reminds me a bit of Boaty McBoatface that the people voted to call the ship RSS Sir David Attenborough.

Nope. The penal colonies were Australia as the UK sent convicts there and they mostly consisted of the early settlers but not in New Zealand.

Yeah, that was a cop out that they named the mini-sub that instead. Good on the Swedes for actually running with it when their "name a train" competition was won by Trainy McTrainface. :)

If I know railway workers.. and I do know a few.. his entire working life would have seen his name being mocked by his fellow workmates.... all in good nature, and with respect. I think he'd probably be pleased his humorous name lives on, and making people smile for years after he's passed.

I appreciate the humour here, but let's not forget these forums are here for users of all ages and this thread isn't suitable for some of our younger members.
