I would like to bulk edit each of my scenarios so that they are all using the latest/best form of each loco. (i.e., swapping all DTG BR423s for the JT version, or the old 101s with the VR version, or swapping missing locos/consists for alternates.) I understand that TSTools will accomplish this but i am lost in the interface.. can anyone help?
This is not exactly an ideal answer. I'm not sure either application does proper bulk editing, but I'll let someone who knows answer. In any case, both tools have their benefits. TS-Tools is the closest you get to bulk editing within a single scenario by selecting to replace like cars within a single consist or even across an entire scenario. I believe it offers across a route as well, but this is very slow and may freeze the application. It's best to do one scenario at a time. It also lets you leave train numbers alone, but you may later need to edit them; LocoSwap later lets you select the exact train number you want from a list and make sure it's formatted correctly (you can change destinations and DLC-specific settings like cold start) or enter your own number following the same format in a fictional situation. Some DLC will not set up trains properly with fictional info, however, so be wary of that aspect. Know what you're working with before doing that.
You can only swap all the scenarios in one route at a time So you could change all the old BR101s for the VR version on Hamburg-Hanover at once. And then do the same on each of the other routes where the loco appear.
Loco Swap is actually working quite well, with one exception: I’m getting an error when launching a scenario that scenario.bin cannot be found. (I can bypass this with F2 so no real damage).
This is perfectly fine. I have actually taken a perfectly fine scenario and placed it into another specific scenario ID before and it gives the same error. I've also used the 66 EP from Armstrong Powerhouse and found one of the original scenarios giving me the error. It happens. F2, cancel, play. You can possibly prevent it by going into the scenario in-game after a LocoSwap edit, making some change, undoing it, and saving. Though it once gave me a tracks.bin error. I was waiting for the train to sail off the tracks the entire time.
