I know that UK has a distinct rail type on the early built railway syatem but I find that the bullhead rail on the WSR is little different than the one in SOS, which have a wedge on the right side of track to fill the gap between the rail and fastener ( Don't know if I recall it correctly), but on WSR, The wedge is missing and the railway directly being held by the fastener on both side, is that the early Dlc detail missing or it should be like that? would like to hear some ideas.
I’m not a P-Way expert, but as far as I’m aware with bullhead rail you always need the wedge. It’s what holds the rail firmly in the chair. The WSR version just looks as if the wedge is missing. In reality if it were like that the rails would move out of gauge and the train would fall between the rails.
WSR was a very early route, and although it looks quite good (extremely good, really) at a distance it does break down up close.
I like the unwelded rail in the map and the sound is great, it needs an overhaul on the scenary and the lighting upgrade.
For me WSR is one of the best routes, but it requires some attention. A gameplay pack with a Diesel Gala day would be awesome. There also should be a maintenance day, with a timetable having a few trains doing track maintenance and so on.
You can also get flat bottomed jointed track but it is increasingly rare on the national UK rail network with even branch lines getting relaid with boring, but understandably cheaper to maintain, CWR.
I have to admit that although the clickety-clack of jointed track is iconic, continuously welded rail is vastly superior in practical terms. As well as being cheaper to maintain it gives better ride quality, lower noise levels in the passenger saloon and allows higher line speeds on curves so reducing journey times. For passengers it’s a huge step forward.
Just about everything in modern railroading is better than in the "good old days,"* but there's nothing like a bit of nostalgia for the creaky, noisy, inefficient days of yore. *Except for the disappearance of porters and baggage cars
They were supposed to be bringing PIS to it, I remember in one roadmap they showed a board with chalked writing showing the times, but alas it's never appeared, guess they just gave up on it.
Well that was the reason the railway was preserved in the first place, in the days when preserving diesels was rare. Although the WSR did have a couple of DMU's early on, one a Park Royal class 103 set which eventually was scrapped, a level of vandalism which in my mind disgraces the preservation movement, I think they may have scrapped a class 105 set as well.
