I wanted to offer two routes located in southern Italy (Calabria) The lines are: Cosenza-Catanzaro is Cosenza-San Giovanni General informations: -Both lines are narrow gauge 950 mm (approx. 3.11 feet) -Both lines are managed by the Ferrovie della Calabria s.r.l. - Both lines can boast the following records: Highest station in Italy and last rack in service in Italy - FERROVIA COSENZA-CATANZARO The line is 110 km long (68 miles) and connects the cities of Cosenza and Catanzaro (The two most important cities in the region). On the selected line alone local flights, on relations: Cosenza-Rogliano Cosenza-Soveria M. Soveria M.-Catanzaro C. Gimigliano-Catanzaro C. The line also includes the Catanzaro metro (Catanzaro C.-Catanzaro L.). This railway is famous for being the last cog railway in Italy, among the stations of Catanzaro Pratica and Catanzaro Sala (2.4 Km - 1.5 miles) is the Strub type rack. Map of the Cosenza-Catanzaro Lido Railway (The route in red) RAILROAD COSENZA-SAN GIOVANNI IN F. The line is 68 km long - 42 miles and connects the second most important city in Calabria (Cosenza) to the Sila, a mountainous complex much appreciated by tourists. The line extends from Cosenza to San Giovanni in Fiore passing, initially, for the urban section of Cosenza and the Pre-Sila countries. After that the climb to the Sila begins, passing under the Monte Scuro arriving at Moccone e Camigliatello Silano (Two very busy tourist destinations). The line continues towards San Giovanni in F. via San Nicola Silvana Mansio e other tourist centers, up to the aforementioned terminus. The line since 2011 has been closed to traffic, but in the section Moccone-San Nicola Silvana Mansio a tourist train is set up with a steam locomotive (or diesel) and vintage coaches. When the line was still open to the passenger service, these were the relationships: Cosenza-Cosenza Center Cosenza-Spezzano della Sila Cosenza-Camigliatello S. Cosenza-San Giovanni in Fiore. Map of the Cosenza-San Giovanni in Fiore Railway (the route in red) * NOTE: I am not advising to build both railways in a single scenario, it is up to the developers to choose the route to be reproduced Stations and other infrastructures: The biggest station is Cosenza, where the interchange with the State Railways takes place. Also in Cosenza there are the main workshops. Going up into the Sila you meet many viaducts, helicopters, tunnels, etc ... Going towards Catanzaro we meet the little station of Madonna di Porto, where every April 25th comes flights full of pilgrims who come head to the nearby sanctuary. Just outside the station there is the Porto Gallery, 2 km long (1.2 miles). In the end we get the stretch 2 km to Cremagliera which leads to the Fiumarella valley, where there are various districts of the city of Catanzaro. I agree these lines (or pretty much any in the region would be nice), but if an FC route was done, I'd like it to include one of these, as they are much more interesting and characterful than the newer trains. Also the FC mountain routes are stunning.
This suggestion would be day 1 purchais for me. instead of going with big stations like milano with no italian rolling stock, better start with a narrow gauge "smaller" enclosed italian operator. The FdC Units are almost identical to the FAL units (Ferrovie appulo lucane, no rack system). Really nice suggestion though.
