So decided to get a few photos of the current status of the CHSR project, which originally broke ground in 2015, and the 1st segment is slated to be done by 2029.

Posting the photos here for anyone who is interested. So far the only construction seen is between Madera and Wasco.

Cedar Viaduct (This was one of the 1st projects I've seen started from the CHSR, and have to drive past it every day to work.....): https://www.buildhsr.com/projects/cedar_viaduct_15369.aspx

Still don't know how quick this will get finished, not to mention there are plans to run this with Amtrak like equipment when it 1st opens....(Not even true HSR trains...)

Cool to see some progress. Thanks for sharing this with us. But they‘re seriously planning to use run of the mill Amtrak equipment? They‘re spending millions on HSR but don‘t get high speed trains?

It was rumored in a news article that it could happen. However i cannot find the source for it, but it depends who, and when they choose a builder for the train sets, and on how fast they can supply them (I still don't think they found one yet)

Edit: Found an article from last year: https://www.sfchronicle.com/politic...high-speed-rail-might-start-with-13812003.php

So they consider using regular Amtrak equipment until high speed trains are ready. That makes more sense; I thought they considered not using high speed trains at all.

I‘m a bit surprised to see how much opposition this project has to face. Maybe it‘s because I‘m not from the US, but why do people in the US at least seem so opposed to (high speed) passenger trains? Meaning no offence:)

I once saw an article about the Caltrain electrification where someone claimed electrification would be ancient technonology compared to diesel engines and that diesel engines would be better for the environment. I think that‘s quite a claim:D
