Hi everyone, I was wondering if there could be a calledonian Sleeper route for TSW3. Obviously the entire route is too long, so I was thinking just a section of the route would be good. The section I was thinking of would be maybe Carlisle to Glasgow or Edinburgh (or possibly both). Would be really great to have a sleeper train in the sim. Thanks, SJ
Part of the WCML has frequently been requested but would be a huge undertaking. Sadly the sleeper stock and locos would not be the prime motive power for the route. A better option might be to do a 70’s or 80’s route where sleeping car trains operated (Mark One or Mark Three) but worked by the normal traction for the route. Something like the West Highland line in 1979, where the sleeping cars and through day coaches from Euston were attached to the 0600 Glasgow Queen Street to Mallaig and hauled by a Class 27 (sleeper etc portion detached at Fort William). Likewise the night trains out of Inverness, at one point there were three of these 1930 and 2030 to Euston and 2350 to Edinburgh/Glasgow, with corresponding Down trains. Again hauled by Class 47 which by that time was the standard traction on the route for heavy trains. And bear in mind, DTG can’t even furnish us with catering cars for the existing hauled stock, let alone a full set of sleeper coaches.
