I’m sure there are a few amongst us who still fire up OMSI 2, as I do from time to time having something of a love (brilliant bus simulation) and hate (complete pig in terms of getting it running and interface) relationship. Anyhow, fired it up after quite a long absence and finding mouse still the best way to control acceleration and steering, which is kind of bye the bye. The main problem I’m having at the moment, running the Yorkshire Counties map, is that no one wants to board my bus at stops. The destination and bus number display are set correctly. The ticket machine is fired up. I’m stopping at the correct location but the passengers just stand there and refuse to get on. Maybe they don’t like the look of me (can’t say I blame them, would you get on a real bus where a grinning manic idiot is using a mouse and keyboard to drive it!?) but in all seriousness it is putting a dampener on proceedings. Will try again later or maybe a different map but in the meantime if anyone has any suggestions as to where I’m going wrong would be most appreciated.
Sounds like the HOF file being used incorrect. I’m guessing from you asking what a HOF file is, that you haven’t installed any of your own? Some busses will have various HOFs included in their install & these can include older versions for older versions of the route, so it’s fairly easy to select the wrong one when you load a bus up (the HOF ingame is the depot you select when choosing a bus).
Correct, just what came with the original game and DLC (Yorkshire and London). I’ll study in a bit more depth later on but had assumed as I was able to set the bus number and destination in the “92” section of the pop up menu it should work. Thanks for the answers.
Just another fun day getting OMSI to work On the subject of the steering/pedal control though, what input device have you tried previously? There are setting combinations that you can use to get a much better control experience. For me the game got 100x better using a controller over KBM, then 1000x better using a wheel.
I have a Logitech joypad which to all intents and purposes is a budget XBox 360 gamepad. There is no analog feel whatsoever, as soon as you push left or right on the stick, the bus just swerves wildly. I did read once about an external programme which can do a job of setting up joypad controls but the name escapes me.
In the settings, go to the controls & find the joypad, then on the steering axis, set it to ‘bi-progressive’. don’t bother with the external programme nonsense, OMSI does have a fair bit of customisation for controls, it’s just archaic.
Update: Got the correct hof file loaded in and passengers now boarding and alighting as they should. No luck with the joypad though, bus still lurches around with bi-progressive set. It's not too bad using the mouse. Obviously got the Yorkshire and London maps, any other recommendations for goos map DLC? Edit: Re joypad, I was wrong it’s a MSI one. Now there are different settings on it per the LED lights so I might play around with those, see if it helps.
Joypad issue might just be the analog sticks on the device itself then. I just checked what mine was set to, bearing mind im using a PS5 controller - steam input is converting it to Xbox360 input. In game I have axis X set to steering, the narrowed box ticked & trait set to bi-progressive. Also worth checking that none of the other controllers are active (untick any that are), as they will effect the one you’re trying to use. Re: routes. For DLC maps I just own Yorkshire & London, the rest are modded maps (found on fellowsfilm). WestCountry V3 is set in Devon, around Paignton & Totnes. If you own the various UK bus DLC’s then you can also get a very nice livery & AI list for it too. Has a couple of routes that run down the coastline to Stoneley, a P&R service, a service which runs the length of the map to Totnes & then a Totnes circular. Bowdenham V5 is a fictional outerlondon (based on Kent) which has a hybrid playstyle of TFL services & regional lines by stagecoach. Lincolnshire V2 is primarily based around one route - the 100 between Lincoln, Gainsborough & Scunthorpe. If you do one of the full connecting runs it’ll take you a good 2 hours end to end. It also has the 107 which takes a slightly different route to Lincoln & the 95 which runs to Retford. Also has a little town runner for Gainsborough. Pimlico - a one hit wonder set around the route 24 in London, it is a good run but ultimately not a huge difference from the London DLC. Strathshire - based around a fictional Scottish city, primarily consists of a couple of short runs, a longer circular service & then a 30ish minute service that covers most areas on the map. Cotterell - offers just one route which takes 15 minutes, based on the City of Bath, the service being a shuttle between the city centre & university. Most of these will have a fair few mod dependancies, but they are well worth the effort. There’s really not much in the way of official DLC anymore - Masterswitch (the devs who did Yorkshire) are working on a new map, but the routebuilders are known to be rather optimistic with their designs, so progress is slow since work keeps stopping thanks to burnout. Most other maps in development will also be mods rather than DLC’s. You will more than likely need a few of the bus DLC’s, but if you feel adventurous you can mostly make your own AI list with busses that you do own.
