As I don't always have time to finish a full (U.S freight) run - when I've already been on the Antelope for a few hours, I like to use the save feature. Sometime this works, but for the most part I just get the "Problem with saving" message. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to remedy this? I've been in the TSW4 file itself and given it permission to do everything it wants. Same for my firewall. I'm at a loss for other things to try and as I don't see any other posts about this, I conclude it's something I'm doing/not doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated - and I'll fix your broken feet for free if you come see me.
Save game is pretty reliable these days. The only issue, which I haven’t tested in TSW4 yet, is if you finish a run, return to free roam, start another run then save and return - you will find the objective data hasn’t saved or reloaded.
I'm not using it. Failed once, trust lost. Good some services on US routes are split into two or more parts, reducing the need for savegames.
Well, at least they didn´t repeat the geniuous strike from the launch of TSW3: Take away what´s causing trouble. Brilliyunt ....... duuuuhhhh.
In the sense that when you resume you have a fair to evens chance of still being in a train (where you left it) and the signals will more than likely work. That aside save games are still an absolute shambles. So many things don’t resume correctly you have to accept that if you save when you go back to it you won’t be playing the remainder of the service with all the bells and whistles engaged. You can virtually guarantee that PIS, GSM-R, weather, sometimes lights and now, inexplicably and randomly the screens in the 801 won’t work.
Oh there are still issues, without a doubt - level crossing car stoppers not working properly on a loaded save is another one. But I can only report my own experience with the save game is that things are light years ahead of where they were two or three years ago. My biggest single wish now is for more than one save slot, especially with the trend towards longer routes and runs.
The save system is embarrassingly rudimentary and doesn’t save various aspects of the game state BUT in my experience I can usually finish my run when I come back to it which is the most important thing. Not always, but usually….
Always stop your train before you save, ideally at a station or in freight runs just pull up. Don't save when your doors are open either, just try and make it as easy for the system to load where you are without any complications. Leave your loco as close to when you first got in it and the saves will be fine just like the scenario first starts up. All my saves have worked this way, even on TSW3.
This is particularly so with some of the more heavily scripted locos, the German G6 being one of them.
