Hello, I have played TSW4 only for 2 months. In the starter pack there is Dresden - Riesa route and I found a Dresden - Chemnitz route in the add-ons. The question is: if I buy the Dresden - Chenmitz route can I go with my train from a station in one route to a station in the other (for example from Riesa to Chenmitz)?

There have been a few people talking about making this a feature or questions about how it might work, even the devs themselves have commented on the possibility. But for the moment the short answer is no - the two routes exist as entirely separate and you have to back out to the game menu in order to switch from one to the other.

If you don't mind that switch mind that switch though and like the feel of a longer journey across multiple routes, the two Dresden routes aren't the only ones that share a station mind you. Also in Germany Main Spessart-Bahn and Maintalbahn both feature Aschaffenburg, much like Dresden they leave it in the same direction but take different tracks. Ruhr-Sieg Nord and Rhein-Ruhr Osten both feature Hagen Hbf, except in their case they both leave the station in different directions meaning between the two you can effectively pass through it in one long run.

Meanwhile in the UK, East Coastway and London Commuter both share Brighton station. Long Island Railroad and NEC: New York - Trenton both feature New York Penn, and pass through it between them as with the two Ruhr routes. And finally there is an upcoming American route which will take this to a new level, with both ends of it sharing locations with other routes. The San Bernardino Line: Los Angeles - San Bernardino will run from Los Angeles Union Station which it shares with Antelope Valley Line, to San Bernardino which it shares with Cajon Pass, so you could effectively chain all three and end up with a run around 200 miles long. Also upcoming back in the UK, the Fife Circle route will share a station with Edinburgh Glascow, that being Edinburgh Waverley.

Each route is its own universe.

Even if they weren't, then there's the problem of time periods: two routes may share the same start point, going in different directions, but they may be in different time periods so the chance of them connecting is nil.

Yea Dresden Riesa and Chemnitz are set in different time periods (Chemnitz I think is 2012) Dresden HBf looks different in each one aswell, it’s not the same station.

Mergers can't happen for an indefinite amount of time. In the february roadmap, 2 of the main issues is getting the signals and gameplay to work which I would assume still hasn't been resolved. Matt also mentioned there are a bunch of other challenges too

And, FWIW, GWE and Bakerloo both include Paddington, but different levels with no in-game connection.

I dont know guys what are you talking about... i merged the LIRR and NEC already in TSW 2020, same with RRO and RSN.. when they released BML and ECW i merged those too.. of course it require some changes in timetable because a lot of trains will have death end because with merging you loose portals but with official editor its easy to just create new timetable without portals on those parts :)

Ah but the OP can’t play what is on your computer. The question relates to how a normal player can do it now without having to learn to code, hack the game files, and eventually write a new timetable in the editor. I think they just want to drive a train.

I think that route mergers, networking and terminus sharing along with the ability to add branches to existing lines will all come about eventually, if not from DTG/TSC/TSW then from somebody else.

It may well not be from TSW, which appears to be shrinking alarmingly at the moment, what with the abandonment of steam traction and freight routes. Have they lost a lot of software engineers and/or the willingness to advance the game? This continuing paradigm of shortish electric commuter routes and trains ( ie. low-hanging fruit ) would indicate either one or both.

There will be a developer who is willing and able to put in the hard work and has the needed skill- set to accomplish these things. After all, we're not building the Brooklyn Bridge here, it's computer software for heaven's sake.

When you read what's being accomplished in software development these days, it's inevitable that in the not to distant future, we will have all the features we're now imagining but can't have with the current developers plus, one hopes, the return of steam and freight, both of which any train sim worth its salt should have.

If, of course, we're willing to pay for it.

I just hope it happens while my eyesight and hearing are still sharp. ;)

Yes. But it'd be a nightmare to work on and make it work correctly, especially for older routes or routes that take place in different times.

  11. are these available for download some where?

No, it cant be shared because routes are not freeware and you have to buy them. I can probably make a utility which will do all the work needed. But right now im busy with some other stuff.
