What I mean is if I buy and download a game from Steam and there is a mod for it on another site how can you add that mod to the game? If say I had the game installed from a disk all the files and folders are there to change/modify but on on steam it isn't the same. Col.
Steam installs your games by default to [Steam install directory]/steamapps/common. You should also be able to right-click on the game in Steam and select Manage > Browse local files.
The reason I asked is I have 'Silent Hunter 2,3,4,&5 plus a few addons' I went install a disk earlier and Windows10 threw up an error, I went online and tried various things but no good, it seems more players have the same problem, but some said they got the Steam version and it plays no problem. The thing is these games have lots of mods that players have done like adding more ships and changing a few things to work better but that was when it was on disk, you can edit files and delete when it on your hard drive. I found a YouTube video showing how to add a mod to a steam game. Once you have the mod/addon go to steam directory on your hard drive then steamapps - common - name of the game then install the mod there. At least thats how this guy shown it. See if the mod/addon isn't supported by the game company then this is how to install it. Silent Hunter is a Ubisoft game and lots of players have done mods like making more ships, altering and making better certain funcions, they do work and are tried and tested so they are OK.
Certainly makes you appreciate Workshop support in Steam lol. I went crazy this past year trying to remember how to install MSTS freeware. I never want to see a another .eng file in my life.
