In real life, some old or new multipel units get dragged by a locomotive, and 1 freight wagon as covering. But, can you also do this in tsw?
Only if the multiple unit has a hook or buckeye coupler (such as Class 101, BR 628, Acela) The only rolling stock in the game that has a coupler adapter is the ROG Class 37 (also the Class 66 from the Engineering Express DLC, but that can only couple to the Class 380 and nothing else)
Some 1st generation DMU’s were able to haul tail traffic, but usually limited to short wheelbase parcels vans. Think the Cambrian Line back in the day was an example of this. Would almost certainly have needed to be a power twin or even pair to have enough hp to handle the extra load.
It's usually wagons specifically adjusted for this purpose, which have different coupling type on each side. There are mods from mjkcp for each region that add those vehicles to the game: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/user/mjkcp/collections#collection-181
This is a nice example.....with an unusually high number of vans (usually it was only 1 or 2). Barrier wagons. Now they could fill up a whole forum thread on their own. Lots of different types and lots of different uses. It is a slight shame that DTG haven't made a couple of these themselves just so that we have something a bit different in-game.
That must have been quite a pull even for a power twin. Those vans would be much heavier than a single centre car trailer!
