Is it possible to pack a route that did not originally come in a AP file into a AP file? Like Maria Pass. Can this route be packed into an AP file? I ask because I would like the benefit that -fastload gives to routes that are in AP format.

Apparently so, but I've never managed to get them to work afterwards. No idea what I'm doing wrong, but since Fastload became a thing, I've tried to repack routes I've previously unpacked to install reskins into, but I've never had any success.

There must be some file, config or data store that a .ap packed file has which a non .ap file doesn't have. If I was to start looking that's where I would begin. Look at the basic differences and go from there

Does the archiving it to zip file and then renaming it to .ap trick work?

Well here's a couple of examples:

    RSC SP Cab-Forward (CabForwardPack01)

    NEC: New York New Haven

I think the difference between these is the .lan files, the Blueprints.pak difference is only like that because cache I think.

Yeah been through this with several people... never had any success in unpacking an .ap file, adding to it, then repacking it.

I'll have a gander over the weekend. Been a while since I've been digging in TS1 files

Here's what atomicdanny said in the -fastload thread. A .ap file is just like a zip file with a different name.

I remember that post when he made it at the time, but I had no success following his instructions. I'll give it another go this weekend.
