Hello there, I am trying to change the keybinds to activate Sifa and PZB/LZB so I don't always have to reach behind me or walk through the loco or whatever. I cannot (or rather: don't want to) use the standard bindings because they are taken up by different programs on my pc. Most of the keybindings are still changable, only those related to the safety systems aren't, no matter what I want to bind them to. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
Not just you. I've got the same issue with UK DRA Toggle. It's not bound to any key, but I can't change it to anything as it reverts straight back to None!
Hey there, I'm sorry you're experiencing these issues, could you please let me know which keybind, according to the menu, you are trying to change and what key combination you are trying to set it to? Regarding the UK DRA Toggle, I just tried to change it on my PC and was able to do so. Did you make sure to confirm the changes? All the best, Jan
Yes, I did. Whatever I try and change it to, as soon as I hit Confirm New Key Binding it reverts to None.
That's very odd, it worked instantly for me, just to test it I set the new keybinding to CTRL + <, what are you trying to set it to?
I tried that, and it didn't work. But then I thought to myself: why not try Q Reset Keys and then see if it works? And it did; I can now bind OK. So that's probably the workaround for anybody else who has a similar issue.
Of course. I'd like to change the EU LZB toggle and EU PZB toggle from Ctrl + Enter to Ctrl + Page Up and the EU Sifa toggle from shift + Enter to shift + Page Up. The button presses are recognized correctly in the little popup but when I want to confirm the new binding, nothing changes. The combinations I am trying to use work for different controls, it's just these I cannot change. The workaround from raretrack worked for me as well, so I am now able to change them. I did also notice that all changes were correctly imported from my TSW3 installation, except for the ones I mentioned above.
Well now after a few minutes I noticed this work-around did not really work - in the settings, the new keybindings show up, but they are not active. If I press the new ones (Ctrl + Page up and Shift + Page Up), nothing happens, but the old bindings are still active (Ctrl + Enter and Shift + Enter).
It was never mentioned anywhere that these shiny new keybinds (such as the DRA toggle in UK trains) only work on new TSW4 content. I've not managed to get the keybind to do anything on ex TSW3 trains such as those in SEH, BCC etc. Is this a bug?
Re-animating this thread because I'm facing very similar issues with PC key bindings. A bunch of them (looks like all of them security systems related, like OP experienced) refuse to be reassigned: NA Alerter Toogle, NA CSS/ATC Toggle, NA Deadman's Toggle, NA PTC/ACSES/ASES Toggle, EU Crocodile Toggle, EU GNT Toggle, EU KVB Toggle, EU LZB Toggle... But also Auxiliary Battery Power On/Off. What's worse, some even overlap with my usual assignments and might cause mayhem during driving. Jumping to the constructive question : Has a solution been found on this front? Is there perhaps a .ini file or even a binary file I might edit to setup these new bindings? Personal experience and suggestions for improvement: It's a real shame for me to stumble across these stuck bindings because pressing physical keys feels much more pleasant and simulation-like to me than maneuvering the mouse. I've easily spent over two hours refining my key bindings in TSW3 and bought myself a 100+€ keyboard with programmable colored leds so I could visually map them out by category so as to remember the assignments more easily. It's great that security systems and other things like auxiliary batteries can now be toggled with the keyboard, but these unchangeable/stuck default key assignments make absolutely no sense on my bindings layout. I would also be very resentful of having to reset all key assignments as was suggested in this thread. Especially because the entire Keyboard Controls GUI is, sorry to say, not a great design. I'd like to suggest that DTG: a) use more of the screen real estate to display the key assignment menu (about 60% of it is used up by a drawing of a keyboard and mouse that bring strictly nothing) b) most importantly, that assignable keys by grouped and presented to the player by categories (thrust systems, braking systems, safety systems, HUD toggles, marker toggles, camera controls, door controls, electrical systems controls, external lighting controls, internal lighting controls, weather-related systems, etc.) instead of presenting the player with over a hundred items messily sorted alphabetically, with only 9 visible key assignments at a time.
No change on the DTG front, as far as I'm aware. Personally, I've solved it by buying a Stream Deck XL. Not cheap, but I'm so much happier in TSW now!
Interesting. But this doesn't seem like the kind of input device I'd personally enjoy using. I've just noticed more key bindings introduced in TSW4 cannot be reassigned and it's gotten to the point where it's ruining an entire route. Generator Field and Fuel Pump controls are assigned to Home and Page Up. I've always used this block of six keys as my brake controls, so this issue means that whenever I apply the train brakes or independent brake on the new EMD 125, I'm also disabling a crucial system required to run the train, which is, of course, ridiculous. dtg_jan, DTG Alex I hope you guys read this. Until today I've always tried to avoid dwelling on TSW's shortcomings and just enjoy what I can get from the game, but this... This I cannot just gloss over and let go. As I've explained above, comfortable use of my keyboard is a central part of the enjoyment I derive from playing simulation games. This issue is too much of a complete show-stopper, what's worse it feels obnoxious and intrusive in a way that no other handling bug, signalling deadlock or scoring anomaly ever has. Please, I beg of you and of your colleagues at DTG to get a handle on this issue and provide a patch. It is such a glaring problem that I'm sure I won't require many man-hours to analyze and rectify. And I'd be happy to run whatever tests, provide whatever info to help developers tackle it. Edit: created a support ticket for this issue on 2024-2-19 17:44 Edit: as per raretrack's suggestion, using the Reset all key feature has allowed me to customize all the key bindings.
