Can't Drive Steam Engine In Free Roam.

I have tried various routes in free roam and tried to drive a steam train, but when I pres the number 9 key and try and set the route it won't let me, any ideas please?

Could you provide some more details? A few others and I use free roam a lot for our steam challenge runs and we never had any issues with it.

 

Yes I think I've found what might be the problem. When I just pressed number 9 key I got the map but on the engin/train there were foot prints in a circle, the set the route was greyed out. So I deleted the train then this time selected a Diesel, went on the map and no footprints on the train and I could select the route. So I'm doing something wrong.

 

For a service to become active and to set a path, be sure you have taken the driver's seat.

 

As Spikee1975 said, be sure to actually sit down in the steam engine.The footprints suggest that you were only standing inside the loco. Then, the game knows that this is your train and everything should work fine.

 

Geez Spike that was it mate thank you. Don't know why I never did that, no wonder it worked OK when I selected the deisel as I must have sat down but didn't with the steam doh!
Anyway did a run, I've not drove a steam properly as it was a bit of a learning curve.

Yeah, without a driver it is considered a static consist by the game.
