Now I know that this route is not needed or wanted in TSW3, but there is not really any Welsh routes. While we do need more routes that are not in England and instead in other parts of the world, we also need a Welsh route. I think the best option for a Welsh route is the South Wales Main Line, on the section between Cardiff Central and Swansea. It would be operated by Transport for Wales and Great Western Railway, with a total of 13 stations. Cardiff-Swansea Route Cardiff Central (TFW) (GWR) Pontyclun Grangetown (TFW) Llanharan (TFW) Pencod (TFW) Bridgend (TFW) (GWR) Pyle (TFW) Port Talbot Parkway (TFW) (GWR) Baglan (TFW) Briton Ferry (TFW) Neath (TFW) (GWR) Skewen (TFW) Llansamlet (TFW) Swansea (TFW) (GWR) Rolling Stock The rolling stock for this route won't really be large. There will only be two options to drive. The Class 800 will be used for Great Western Railway. There will only be five stops for GWR on this route. The Class 170/2 will be used for this route for Transport for Wales, and there will be 13 stops. Pros of adding this route - There will finally be a Welsh route - An express service that doesn't originate in London will be able to be driven or rode on - For once, we would have a route in the UK that isn't in England Cons of adding this route - Yet another UK route would be added - Like I said, there would only be 13 stops
Yes and Yes! I would love a Class 800 in the game, 170/2 would be very nice too! We lack of GWR stock, not sure if TSW has Tfw license thought. The route is very cool too, intereseting station for sure!
Pontyclun and Grangetown are two separate parts of Cardiff and two separate stations, with Grangetown being on the Valley line towards Penarth and Barry I think a major part of this route would be freight, with several large industries and processes along the line including the once huge yard at Margam Personally I would set this route back a bit and leave it with the HST, 158 and add the 175 to the route rather than the 170 and 800 Then add in a class 70 for the freight alongside the 37 and 66 we already have
Date it even further and include Newport and you have a huge range of freight between Port Talbot (Margam) and Llanwern. Intercity Valenta powered HSTs and introduce Class 56s to the game and JUA tippler wagons for the iron ores (with a layer for triple headed 37s! If you have TVL or WCL DLC could be introduced like the heavy freight pack to include Class 37/9s, (both engine options!) Railfreight liveried 47s, Express liveried 158s, Railfreight 08s all of which models are in game but need tweaking to refine the differences. And maybe a few new wagon types (HAA, BDA, SPA)
My bad. I actually do think that freight should be added to this though, either as a DLC or with the route.
Mid to late 90’s would be the ideal time period for this route. In addition extend to Llanwern east of Newport and you could get the full run of the iron ore and steel traffic between there and Margam. The challenge for DTG building this route is there’s a great deal of complex track including large yards, the depots at Canton and the many industrial areas. However it is high time they dipped their toes into Wales and this would seem an ideal crowd pleaser to start the ball rolling.
I think the counter to this is that the passenger scheme is fairly easy if you don't add too much complexity at Cardiff Central, with HSTs only stopping at Cardiff, Bridgend and Port Talbot, and locals stopping at all stations So focus on Freight ops, with the passenger stuff almost sorting itself
Yeah my bad. I wouldn't go that far back but I don't want to go to modern day. Freight would definitely be added in this, and it wouldn't just be passenger trains. The HST should be included though. I would say it could be based in 2010. I don't really know much about Welsh transport.
That's fine. I was born and grew up in Cardiff so know the area pretty well, even if I haven't lived there in a long while I even worked as a "trolley dolly" on the class 158s when they ran from Swansea or Cardiff up to Birmingham and Manchester It's a good suggestion, might just need a few tweaks around the edges to avoid huge development needed, or a few more assets to cover a lot more time (such as including pacers on the Valley lines etc)
