For fans of freight, the addition of new and varied stock brings the possibility to operate more services and stock moves representative of the real world. In the first of this series of gameplay packs by Skyhook Games, both Midland Main Line and Great Western Express will see the VTG -branded TEA tankers on a selection of freight services across the timetables of both routes.

Midland Main Line – Updates and Cargo Line Vol.1 Services

A significant update has come to Midland Main Line this week on Train Sim World 4, which included a large range of improvements across the route to scenery, signage and textures, as well as well as fixes to key issues and the implementation of dynamic snow.

These Midland Main Line updates will have been made available from yesterday for players on TSW4, alongside the Winter Core (Part 1) updates, and we will share more news on when we can roll these out to Train Sim World 3 players in due course.

You can read the full list of Midland Main Line updates over on the Skyhook Games website.
You can also read more about the Winter Core Update (Part 1).

It will be interesting to see how much this costs via Steam's "complete my collection" bundle for those who already own both routes.

I echo the above. £9.99 for wagons is a bit too steep. I would have much rather Skyhook make the Class 222 for MML.

That’s going a bit far isn’t it? Some people have expressed their views that it might be a bit expensive for what you get but let’s not get carried away. I’m sure there will be many people waiting for this to appear in a sale before purchasing.

I think Skyhook may have overextended here.

They’re losing big chunks of revenue on this pack to DTG & storefronts, then its turned out that there is another dev that were very involved too. So I understand why it’s at the price it is.

I think skyhook would have been better off doing a larger bundle and pricing that accordingly. I think they’ll have a rough time trying to do well on various volumes of this pack in this price range.

There is a need & place for this content in TSW, but I don’t think the economic strategy of TSW lends itself to it, especially when you’re doing small packs for nearly the same price as a loco.

I wasn’t happy to see that we are finally looking at modern UK freight, but still stuck on the 66, ultimately the nail in the coffin on this one was the fake licensing other than the VTG logo. There are also accuracy issues with various bits too. If you’re going to do (comparatively) ‘expensive’ packs, those are things that need to be boxed off.

Will come back around to these packs when we do finally get a new freight loco with the ability to haul them. The only purpose they’d serve me at the moment is as AI & there just isn’t enough timetabled action or static use of them to justify it.

Alright these VTG wagons can be used on MML and GWE, but I would've expected these to be AI across multiple other routes as well, it doesn't say anything about AI in the article so I'm assuming its not present.

I’m not against wagon packs. However not really good value to me until we get the consist editor.

For me a purchase now it all depends on whether complete my collection makes it work out cheaper (as it did for Rivets recent pack). Otherwise this falls into the maybe in a sale category.

I like freight, but this currently doesn’t excite me too much.

Only having GWE, 8 services and 2 scernarios isn’t particularly of any interest for near enough a price of a whole new train.

it will be a big sale if I was to consider picking this pack up, I couldn’t justify value at full price.

Sony don’t set the price, they take a cut of it which is the issue.

Cost of living has gone up for everyone, not just train sim devs.

It is overpriced for what it is. Bought it for Xbox this morning for £9.99. There is very little you can buy these days for £10, but I would expect more from this pack for that price, so will wait for a sale before I add it to my steam collection.

So just to clear up. No timetable services (8) appear on the PS5 version of GWE, The Scenarios are there on GWE as well. I have made DTG aware. They are looking into it.
I dont know about the Xbox as mine is packed away. The PC version works fine. As an unintional side effect of the new pack you also get to choose if you want to drive the Diesel Legends and WSR Class 52 on the MML and GWE using the new VTG branded tanks. Yes not prototypical but hope they keep it in there.

No, it’s not expensive in the scale of things today. I want to see what quality it brings to the game and what it gives me in gameplay on Xbox, before I decide to spend £9 on steam for it this week or wait for a sale on Steam. If it’s a quality addition I will buy it again now for steam, and if it’s as good as the improvements made to MML today, it will be worth buying twice.

And again - due to DTG using Steams pricing matrix for non UKP, USD, EUR prices instead of setting a fair exchange rate, they are asking me to pay the equivalent of £15.20 (in my currency) for a £9.99 product. So it's a definite no from me. I'm getting pretty fed up of being overcharged.

The Cargo Line Collection hasn't gone live on steam yet so we'll see what the complete my collection works out at but £9.99 for something that should really have been in the route as standard is way too much. I appreciate that there's probably a lot more work involved than it just being a re-skin but I'd have liked to see more than 8 services and 2 scenarios for the two routes they've selected (especially if it was a brand new wagon!). Skyhook have really misread what people are after here, we want more freight but we want variety! not another 66 with some reskinned wagons that they should have really included with the route in the first place.

I for one am holding off for a sale because personally. I do find this add-on very poor value for money and I will explain why in a professional and a civilised manner. In all honesty, I believe that Skyhook Games should have done a Class 60 to go with these new wagons and then sell the pack at £15 to £20 because that would make this more appealing to those that want a new locomotive and a new Class 60 would add something new to the roster. If I do get a bundle deal as I already GWE and MML and there is a discount offered to me,

I will get it but as things stand, I am not drawn to this pack at this time to commit to buying because I have the Class 66 already and if there was something like a Class 60 being offered. I would have bought the pack right off the bat and done an exclusive let's play on it because I do remember seeing the Blue VTG tankers through Nottingham, Newark and Barnetby regularly in 2017 on my travels when train fanning. It was mostly Class 60's that I witnessed on these tank workings which were 60063, 60054, 60039, 60100, 60091, 60020 and even 60007 in the Rail Safety liveries.

On a positive note though, this new freight pack could pave the way for someone to make a Class 60 Pack that could be integrated into using these TEA tankers in their add-on if Skyhook Games doesn't make the Class 60 themselves and perhaps offer it as a freight bundle. There is a lot of potential and we are going in the right direction.

Some people seem to be under the misapprehension that Skyhook set the price. That isn't how it works; in the videogame industry, it's the publisher not the studio that sets the price (just as in books, it's the publisher not the author, in music the label not the musician). DTG is the publisher and DTG set the price.

    Really DTG/Skyhook/Whoever?

Got the mighty MML update and the cargo pack, and yet:

    - Class 43 is empty. Nobody want to ride on me train.
    - Class 66 external camera is off 90 degrees.
    - Class 43 AWS on/off exceed my cognitive capabilities. Yes, I found the "spare" switch but sometimes does beep sometimes no beep. Sus.

When comes the next mighty update?

You ain’t kidding… just gave it a try while hauling about 24 cars and you really need to plan out your actions a bit. Took me a while just to go from 40 mph to 30.

This ought to give me a solid freight fix for a bit. I’m into it.

As others have echoed, would really of liked to of seen another UK freight loco. However, if there's at least a positive from this DLC, then that's seeing older routes, especially GWE but also nice with MML too, gain some more timetabled services to make them just slightly busier.

I'd welcome more DLC like this if they could add more life to older, decent routes - preferably more services the better and obviously loco DLC is key.

If this comforts anyone. You can get this for £8.09 for TSW4 if you own MML and GWE like I do. At the moment, it is on discount for £8.99 if you do not own the two routes this uses. I was going to hold off but as I am eligible for the bundle discount then I may as well dive in and enjoy the £8.09 discount.

Indeed, the 10% launch discount for the wagons themselves and the 10% bundle discount stack for a total 19% discount.

Having been impressed with these tanks on the stream, I'm going to buy them later today, but I have to ask: why are these trains so short? A 24 car consist would be a minor switching move where I come from. I can't imagine such a short consist would be economical, 50+ cars would make more sense.

It’s a good question and maybe someone from across the pond can enlighten us on the answer…
But I will say, 24 tankers fully loaded has seemed like a fair challenge so far in terms of braking

I was a little hesitant to buy this at first, but after playing the two GWE scenarios yesterday I am happy I did. There was lots of AI traffic, and the weight of the train could really be felt as I rode the yellows over the mainline. I was especially impressed with the inclusion of Underground stock at Acton towards the end of the second scenario.

With all that said, two things come to mind...

GWE REALLY needs the same love and care West Somerset is getting

    AND

We really need a North London Line DLC

It’s to not clog up the rails, obviously there’s less train per signalling block, allowing more trains within a network. There’s also keeping the speed up, UK moved away from multi headed trains a while ago now (for General Use), so they have to stay within a given power range.

UK freight took a massive nose dive back in the 60-90’s, back then you could find longer trains that would move up the country and split off at given intervals. Now it’s primarily shorter unit trains that skulk about & ToCs are very careful with striking the profit line in just the right spot.

:D Unprototypical, but I do like the 52s…

Welcome to Europe :) That’s not how we roll in Europe, generally. To put things into context, the most extraordinarily heavy trains in Germany were 6000t ore trains, but they don’t load them fully anymore because of too much wear and tear.

Ah, that would explain it then. If you can't run multiple units you can't have long, heavy freights. I do remember MU's in MSTS and TSC., but not in TSW.

Yeah, the class 60 is so requested not only for variety, but they have more hauling power than 66’s, so for these loaded TEA’s they’re more common than the 66 (other than regeared 66’s, which I believe only Freightliner have).

Theres a lot of people noticing the difference in weight with the new wagons, mostly because the 66 isn’t especially suited to be hauling higher quantities of them.
