It's time to do your duty moving freight in Train Sim World 5. Cargo Line Volume 4: Military is out now!

    Cargo Line Volume 4: Military
In Volume 4, take charge of more secretive movements across the UK rail network; the transportation of military vehicles secured aboard KWA Warwell wagons.

    The Rolling Stock
    KWA Warwell Wagons
    [IMG]

The KWA Warwell wagon was introduced to the UK amidst the Second World War. These wagons feature a low profile for being laden with large equipment while keeping within Britain’s restrictive loading gauge.

The days of mass-importing Sherman tanks from across the pond have long since passed, but the railways still provide a vital role in modern national security. Rail-served Ministry of Defence sites are still dotted about the country to this day, and many pieces of equipment are still transported between them.

This brand-new wagon to Train Sim World is in a heavily weathered military green livery. The wagon consists of a main deck featuring a lower central portion and mounted on two wheeled bogies. Conventional draw gear and buffers are located at each end.

The wagon is available in three conditions:
    • Unloaded/empty
    • Loaded with a generic tracked armed personnel carrier (APC)
    • Loaded with a 3-axle Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle (MRAP).
The loads included are interpretations of real-world vehicles that do not feature guns or munitions. Skyhook Games made a statement concerning this on the Dovetail Games Forums.

The pack also comes with the DB Cargo variant of the Class 66, previously seen in other Train Sim World Add-ons.

    Timetable, Scenarios and Gameplay
    [IMG]

Gameplay takes place across two routes:
    • Great Western Express
    • West Coast Main Line: Preston-Carlisle
These are available as separate route Add-ons.

    Great Western Express
    [IMG]

Gameplay on GWE represents military movements between bases in the Westcountry, Oxfordshire and Essex making use of the various yards on the route such as Southall and Acton.

There are 3 Scenarios for Great Western Express and 6 timetabled services to operate between London and Reading:

West Coast Main Line: Preston - Carlisle
    [IMG]

On Just Trains’ West Coast Main Line: Preston – Carlisle route, gameplay represents movements that would have taken place in the late 1980s moving equipment to the coast or through the country to other military bases located off the map in Scotland or the Midlands.

These trains are hauled by the Class 47 included in the route Add-on, rather than the Class 66.

There are 3 Scenarios for WCML Preston-Carlisle and 8 timetabled services to operate between Preston and Carlisle.

Journey Mode is also supported in ‘Armoured Personnel Carrier’

    8th Generation Console Experience
Please note that for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the spread of other trains running around has been reduced to provide acceptable performance. This reduction does not apply to PC, Xbox S/X or PlayStation 5 versions.

Train Sim World 5: Cargo Line Vol.4: Military is out now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £9.99/€11.99/$14.99

*UK pricing is £9.49 on the PlayStation Store

Why is everybody, including the developer and publisher, so sensitive about portraying authentic military vehicles, including guns and munitions? We're all familiar with such images just by watching the nightly news. Kids can buy toy tanks and warplanes. There are plenty of video games featuring such military hardware.

What's the problem? It's not as if DTG haven't shown this kind of thing before. As I mentioned earlier, the S&D had the Q1 add-on hauling tanks, big artillery and fighter fusillages. Historical and in TSC yes, but still available for sale.

    Hiya,
I believe this is down to the rating requirements, so outside of Skyhook and DTG control. To get the +3 rating approval there are guidelines that must be followed. DTG are also interested in 'no guns, no violence' and that is passed down to 3PP projects to adhere to.

Except passengers potentially being mowed down by express trains of course. ;)

Seriously though, I get your point. On the other hand, as I pointed out, DTG's Q1 scenarios are still available on Steam, explosions included at no extra charge.

Does beg the question why make a military add on in the first place if the equipment has to be emasculated?!

Quite. I assume that the Thomas dlc's require the +3 rating, so it must apply to all content.

Then, as you say, why bother with military add-ons at all.

This is a compromise already, and it's actually realistic.
You don't ship these vehicles with weapons on them in real life.
You can argue if they are accurate representations of the vehicle models (which exact model is the MRAP or APC, a Warrior, an M113, a Mastiff, etc) but they aren't inaccurate from "lacking guns."
I've worked to ship a lot of military equipment in real life in over 20 years.
You take those off before shipping since they're removable.
    So this IS accurate.
Now will you see tanks, where you can't remove the gun?
    Probably not.
But then again "realistically" 90+% of military equipment isn't tanks and artillery guns.
An Army is mostly supply trucks to be fair.
    Which also don't have guns.
    And bulldozers, cranes, etc.
Few troops even touch a tank, let alone drive one.
This is pretty accurate as to what a "military train" looks like.
If anything there's not enough supply trucks and support trucks (like ambulances, command vehicles, tow trucks "wreckers") etc.
They could do several more volumes to cover all the non-combat vehicles involved.
That's not to mention the helicopters and tarped stuff which is just a shape under a tarp so doesn't need to be fully modeled at all.
Most of the actual gear goes into Intermodal "connexes" anyway, so they'd look just like the Intermodal Volume 3 pack, just with "Army" written on them.

I already thought that they don't transport them with guns attached

I was already wondering who didn't allow the guns, as there are many shooting games out there.
Now i am very sorry for that lovely, but deaf, cow in the mittenwaldbahn

I'm still in dubio wether to buy or not though

In the end it's your choice, but I REALLY like having full length 47 runs to do on WCMLOS for a change (tap changer 87 isn't my favorite)
The models themselves are very well done.
Plus it'll be nice to have more content on the GWE with the remaster.
The difference between the 47 on Shap and the 66 on GWE is night and day with the same load and it makes for a fun comparison. The Shap timetable you feel "slotted in" and the scenarios seem decent (haven't done much of them yet)
I've heard people say they wont' buy it because it's $15.00 (or 10 pounds or whatever) but I figured... I spend more than that on lunch so....
I've already gotten more enjoyment out of it in game than I spent earning that much cash at work.
But to each their own =-)

I will say the lower freight speeds on Shap make for a nice long drive. A full run from Carlisle to Preston can take over 2 hours, esp if you get stuck behind some other traffic.
Well people did say they wanted "longer freight runs" =-)

If this is all because of Thomas then I will say that addon is the biggest mistake in this game’s history,

anyways on a different note I hope we get the KFA wagon and hopefully we get other vehicles for the KWA like construction vehicles

TSW has always been a +3 game; DTG want the kid's market and have from the start, long before Thomas.

If you want a "grownup" train game, buy Trans-Siberian Railroad and fight off wolves with a chainsaw...

A bit hard when it’s not on damn Xbox, and you can literally buy military toys for kids 3+ but the sim can’t have some simple tanks

I mean I like Thomas but it should have be a real steam locomotive instead of Thomas or the whole island of ttte, not a extra addon to a realistic railway

Is it really that much of an issue for you?
    Seriously.
Given the small number of Challenger 2 tanks the UK has right now (and less as more get retired or put into storage) the odds are you would never see them on a military train anyway.
    It's a non-issue.
If people wanted more "realism" they'd demand more supply trucks and bulldozers on trains.
It has nothing to do with the "rating." It's just not realistic to see many "tanks" on military trains.
They're a tiny fraction of the vehicles transported.

As for Thomas... he's NOT a "real steam locomotive."
    He's a cartoon.
And the "whole island of Sodor" would be 4-5 full sized routes in TSW easily.

I think the Cargo Pack is okay for what it is. Could have done with more variety (supply trucks, mixing up the types of vehicles) but what you do get is well modeled and well implemented for the cost of a take away meal. Work about a half hour at your job and get hours and hours of gameplay out of it.

Hi, yesterday I bought the Cargo Line Volume 4 Military package, but... also I bought one I wanted to to do it before...
Cargo Line Volume 1 TEA Tank package.
Due to, on TSW for Germany routes, we have only one model of tank car, as I have mentioned on the forums some times.
More different models are needed. At least include one or two more.

Well taking back about to this Military Cargo...it is really nice! I love it!

    Please check some pictures:

But the trains seems to be a bit short!

So I added more freight cars...

Even I made the Cargo Line Vol 1 TEA tank, more longer with more tank cars and different colors.

Nice pictures. You're on PS and are using liveries? Or are those all standard?
    I use Steam myself.
I think those packs can work quite well in Germany too.
Not exactly accurate vehicles, but close enough =-)
They do look a lot better mixed up and not all the same in a row.

I would love it if the Class 40 and 45/1 could substitute for the Class 47 on the Preston to Carlisle.
