In the roadmap there was said that Skyhook Games will be working on two new Cargo Volume Packs. One of them, the Vol.4 is featuring the KWA Well wagon and has the theme "Military". I wondered myself why they choose "Military" as a motto, because these times there are enough tank-related things happening that aren´t good. Bringing that not-so-good topic into TSW doesn´t feel right for me, or I misunderstood something...

They typically carry military vehicles. They also carry civil engineering equipment but considering the military theme it’s safe to assume the former.

Personally I think it’ll be nice to see some exposed heavy equipment being hauled.

I do not see the problem with it, specially since it is a DLC (you can just not buy it if you do not like it), or you can just disable that layer in a route and enable it in another route with the new TSW 5 feature if you don't want to see it in every route.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. I’ve seen military vehicles being transported by train a few times. It didn’t suggest anything bad to me. If anything, nice to see something a bit different.

Not sure what you mean by "tank related"... you mean "war?"
To be fair, vehicles move by rail in peacetime too.
It's just cheaper and easier than driving long distances.
Tank tracks tear the hell outta roads, so aren't usually let on them.

Military cargo can be aid for abroad or maybe some part of the UK is flooded and the military needs to step in.

Not checked the production year of KWAs but I think it may go well with WCMLOS as there is Longtown M.O.D just north of Kingmoor Yard

Military is good. Pity it's not the S & D with a Q1 and Spitfires engaging Messerschmitt Bf 109s overhead. ;)

Will fit perfectly, although MOD longtown has been used more recently to store ex DRS locos.

Personally see no issue with it; military movements with railways have been a thing for MANY years. Still happen to this day… TSW is about making things Realistic. KWAs were used primarily for military purpose for moving tanks, so why not call it what it is?

I think you're going to get the typical PL treatment these days, points deductions that is, but you couldn't be in better hands. I hope we are safe this season from deductions, but that were unpleasant last year.

Modern and 80s cargo variants would double sales. I would love to see this for Longtown MOD on Preston to Carlisle <3

Did I read right and they suggested "customizable" cargo?

Yeah they'll punish the smaller teams while letting the likes of Man City, Chelsea etc etc get away with it because they make them a lot of money.

Never again will a side go from the 2nd division to European cup (or as it is now Champions league) winners within only 3 seasons again. A shame this is how things are now.

Anyway back to the Military pack!

I can see why some people might be a bit unhappy about it but I personally really like the idea of it; a very special kind of freight move and I personally cannot wait to get my hands on it; along with the Intermodal pack too of course! The more freight, the merrier.. we just need more freight LOCOS!! Please!!!!!

I think somebody needs to grab the bull by the horns and do a new UK freight loco to make these packs more interesting. A Class 90 would be nice.

We're getting almost the same loco in the Class 87 (albeit different front body style) so what other freight locos are options? Didn't 90% of the freight go by 66 or 47 in real life? I guess there's the Class 70...but that's as limited in numbers as the 90s....

I suppose with the 70 you could just put that on all the modern routes; I mean, EWS don't do every single freight run in real life, so if people would complain about the 70s being unrealistic with their workings.. then just look at the 66 and try finding some of the workings it runs in game, in real life.. I can bet you that Freighliner, DRS, GBRf and Colas probably do a fair amount of services run by the 66 in game.....

That would be good, though they don't get a huge amount of use I don't think.. a few engineering trains, RHTT and test train runs and that's it as far as I know.
Nonetheless, I would be more than happy to see one in the game!

Even out of war military perform exercises and training operations. I would rather a tank be transported via a train or truck than be stuck behind a convoy of them on the highway. My suspension would be wrecked driving behind them as they rip up the road.

Our unit railheaded a lot of equipment across the country. If you've ever been in a military convoy, you can understand why.
    SOOOO SLOOOOOOOW.
    And the inevitable breakdowns.
    Plus the massive manpower required.

Load them on a train and in a day or two they're there in a group ready to be offloaded.
Of course you can do them by truck too... but trains are cheaper (as with most heavy/bulk stuff)

    No clue what that is.
    Looks British.
    However, third rail?
    Which means bleh.

It'll just be wagons shipping equipment around.
Just Trains did a UK Military Wagon Pack for TSC, and I don't think that has caused many problems. Screenshot_20240823_083920.jpg

Licensing plays a key part here.

I’m fairly certain DTG knows we are all fed up of the same old DB/EWS 66s constantly, and if they had the license permissions to include other operators I’m sure they would - but it’s a case of working with what you have. It’s better to have the “same old” class 66 running in place than just removing them completely.

A lot of UK routes unfortunately also don’t really justify making a whole brand new loco for freight either

Doesn’t feel right for you then don’t buy it. Simple. Others like myself want varied freight and not just that ubiquitous container everywhere!

Yeah I completely understand that, and I know it's not easy in general to get a licence; so I am thankful we have the DB/EWS licence and especially the fact that it seems to be a strong one (utilised on every UK route pretty much)!
But yeah, I do understand the complexities and issues/annoyances getting a new license and ensuring all works out, especially following that TOCs requests and so on.

I was just saying that if a new freight loco was released, (providing the new company agreed with the idea) could that new loco not just sub in for the 66; almost as though it was just a new livery for the 66.. so it has the most usage in game as possible, rather than making new workings specifically for it, and potentially limiting its usage in the process?

Chill your beans, it were just how the conversation flowed, we are not robots. Anyway you are the second to get the blues and twos out, after we realised ourselves that we should probably get back on topic. You posting that has caused two (Edit: three after your reply) more posts unrelated to the title now, so, well done on your mission.

I'd love the Class 25. Sadly I think it's a bit too early for most routes. They were gone by the 1980s mostly I think and DTG doesn't seem to do 60s and 70s routes. (Clinchfield is the only one I can think of that's 1970s)
It could possibly go on the SOS/PFR but even then people would complain because it's 1960s and not 1950s so it's "too late."

It's in that blind spot that makes it not quite "fit" anywhere sadly.

Nothing wrong with military. It's there to protect you, your country and your values. I think we've just learned how important it is to always be prepared, as conflicts are part of human history, on small and large scale, and will always be fought out eventually. Like thunder and lighting happens in nature, to resolve potential differences.

I just like that it's more variety of cargo and hopefully opens up more variety of loading/unloading points too because it's not JUST another oil tanker or JUST another intermodal to the SAME sidings. Loading up specific equipment requires both that special load and stopping at an MOD site to load/unload it.
    Variety is good.
And yes, people that don't want to don't have to buy it and it won't exist on their machine.

Matt made a comment about Leicester City, so I replied tongue in cheek. The conversation then went back to the topic. If you have an issue with it, that's your issue not a me issue.
