Hi, as the last core update finally made Cathcart line working, I dived into it. I find the physics a bit strange and I don't know if real trains behave like this. - Accelartion: TSW in notch 1 and 2 acceleration is minimal. Pulling out station notch 3 /4 accelerates the train fairly realisticly imo. How is it real life? Do drivers use notch 3 to start with? - Braking: I am just curious which notch drivers use? Do they use notch 3 for stopping trains at a station? - Do they use DRA in station always or only when there is a red aspect? -And finally what it the guard key on the back wall?
Not sure on the accelleration question. For the rest; Drivers are now told to use step 2 braking, that leaves full service braking for if you've broke too late and need to slow quicker. DRA is only used when at a red signla, or when leaving the cab. The guard's key activates the guard's panel on the far wall. It allows you to control the doors on the right-hand side while looking down the platform (and is used by a guard when one is on the train)
In EMUs of the generation of the 314, Drivers would go pretty much straight to notch 4 from a standing start (unless the speed limit was very low or they were on cautionary aspects, or experiencing low adhesion). The intermediate notches are only really used for holding a steady speed, when that is required.
