Whilst the 380 Thread doubles for this, I want to give it it's own spot - as the Cathcart Remaster is, largely, independent of the 380 Add-on, minus the timetable. Today's roadmap is an amazing one for this remaster - with the timetable largely revealled, including many of it's quirks. The lighting, too, looks amazing. Spoiler: If you haven't read the roadmap and want the timetable to be a surprise for you - skip this. The 158! The 801! (also, Argyle Line) The 385! The Flying Scotsman! Two Trains in the same platform
Cathcart is looking like it could be one of the best routes after this update, great they're including so much ai, that crossmyloof and dumbreck stations will be modelled as well. And the 158 is looking spectacular
Spoiler: The Rest 6-Car Class 314 A 170? Railtour! The Class 314 will also be updated to TOD4 - with it's interior looking incredibly realistic now.
I do wonder if they will be available for Scenario Planner, a "start here, turn around, drive here" type thing.
I purchased this in the latest Playstation sale specifically as I knew this update was coming. Looks like it'll be money well spent. I've been holding off actually playing it till this update drops.
the updated AI traffic volume and variety in Glasgow Central is looking pretty damn impressive! looking forward to jumping back in when the update drops to take the 380 for a spin and take in the updated lighting and scenery Hopefully Edinburgh looks a bit more filled out once the 158 drops, and then on to Birmingham NS with a teased or not teased Avanti West Coast and any other goodies
Should point out these aren't in the playable area but rather scenery pieces which that player can see and AI trains will stop at.
Three more images from the stream: Nothing too interesting here... The siding mentioned in the article, I assume. The concourse PIS set-up; not in order of departure but seemingly random. Most interestingly is the background; The 385, 380, and 314 are all together; Meaning that Cathcart's being lifted from 2014 to 2019 timetable-wise. It isn't technically 2019 because of the accessibility + eco-friendly travel decals on the 380 and 385, but the timetable is definitely there. Avanti West Coast is referenced with a 7-car train, which suggests to me a HST.
The PIS board is set up with 1 board per platform, with the far right one displaying the time rather than platform departures. There's also a similar yet smaller PIS board on the far right platforms displaying departure information for those.
Amazing to see TSW being pushed to this new standard with everything coming together, it will certainly make the Cathcart Line a new experience again. Would have been great to see it extended onwards further than what is mentioned though and get some real speed in the 380. Rather excited for the 158 bringing something to Glasgow and to Edinburgh, looks amazing too! ScotRail on top!
Ah, I see. I have to say this remaster does look amazing. Well done to yourself and Joe. Already being my favourite route, it may well be my only route used from now on
I wonder if price will change or not and would be cool to see if possible a Cathcart bundle or best of Scottish bundle incorporating all Scottish stuff etc.
Has the Ballast changed ???. I haven’t played this route in a very long time. This looks very very nice. I found this route a bit boring but I’ll definitely try it out again when it gets updated. It looks very beautiful.
If that's what the final version looks like, it's a real leap forward. Actually looks like a cityscape. Now we know it can be done for Glasgow, how about Birmingham, Manchester, NYC etc.
I loved Cathcart Circle - always thought it was one of the finer routes in TSW scenery-wise and because I do like the 314 - and this one looks fantastic. I don't have strong feelings one way or another about the 380, but I would gladly buy it to support such extensive upgrades to the route.
Very much looking forward to this. Going back to improve routes is something we should support and encourage.
I know they’ve said they’re not revisiting it. But London Commuter with this kind of remaster would be spectacular. It’s still the best route pound for pound.
Ideally every route would get this treatment periodically. There's always new rolling stock to be released, new stock to add that has been released, plus improvements that have come in to the game since the route's release or last remaster.
Honestly looking at some of these screenshots you would think they were real life photos. The lighting and shadowing etc is just so bang on. I would absolutely love to see this done on Rivets Scottish routes.
Kind of - this may be what Liam is meaning but I get the impression (based on the screenshot) that it's not; The main board has [×] number of boards, going from first departure -> last - then there's later arrivals - then the Low Level and the time. Looking at the screenshot it doesn't appear to be ordered like that. The smaller set of boards at the upper end of the station does also exist, yes. It shows departures from platforms 10-15 (I think), in the same order as the main board does.
Bought this on the PS5 last night (big discount!) due to the upgrade. I cannot wait for this to come out, it looks amazing! Thanks so much for doing this lads!
Pretty much this. PIS boards work per platform so had to fake it the best I could, with 15 of the 16 screens showing info for platforms 1-15 then the world time on the 16th screen. Smaller screens on the far end of the station show platforms 11-15, with the 2 low level screens left as blank.
l hope so too and WCL. From the screenshots shots it looks stunningly brilliant and all of Rivets scenery throughout their routes needs remastering and made to look more realistic. This is a start and much welcomed. Well done Joe, Liam and all the team at DTG
Those screenshots look promising and awesome, better lighting, improve scenery, more services and layers, and a busier Galsgow Central, can't wait to see the Class 380 and Cathcart remaster. Hope that other UK routes can receive such a remaster, especially those Rivet routes like EDG and WCL.
I doubt DTG would touch Rivet routes. Of course the remaster looks good, though the counter argument is CCL (and other routes) should never have been so dark and grim in the first place. Why has it taken 7 years from first release of the programme to start getting appearance into an acceptable state. And I still cannot get excited about the Class 380 being another one handle EMU with a narrow slit window though, as mentioned elsewhere, is what DTG now seem to feel represents a "fun" train in the sim.
This will rejuvenate Cathcart for sure. I'm also excited to see more trains on the Glasgow - Edinburgh express route which has always seemed rather empty to me, not at all how the line between 2 major cities should look, the DRS 66 gaming pack didn't make much difference either as it still looked unnaturally empty. Will both the 380 and 158 layer on to Glasgow- Edinburgh does anyone with Scottish knowledge know? I'm assuming it only runs on Fife Circle being a DMU.
Absolutely agree here. For instance, what's even better is when it's a route that I've never really enjoyed previously - mainly because of Glasgow being empty and a majority of the timetable consisted of just one loco etc - but I'm now genuinely excited for the updated Cathcart as it sorts all my main frustrations of the older version. The thing with TSW is this game already features some superb, albeit now older routes already, so more upgrades and/or remasters is most definitely welcome!
Avanti appearing on the PIS is certainly intriguing. It's obviously a substitution, but what, I wonder?
There was mention of the Class 158 being drivable in the Edinburgh Glasgow timetable, however other than ECS moves between Eastfield and Haymarket there might not be much that it can do. Class 158's can do the Inverness run so that would be between Waverley and Polmont Junction, and as the service doesn't stop at Polmont there would be no way for the player to finish the journey other than to make sure that the signal at Polmont is at danger so that the run can finish there. I think it was also mentioned that Class 380's wouldn't initially be added to Edinburgh Glasgow but if they were they could run between Waverley and the Midcalder lines at Duff Street making a passenger stop at Haymarket. They could also be AI trains disappearing into Calton Tunnel for North Berwick and Dunbar services.
Love everything about the updates coming to Cathcart, really love that dtg are going back to routes and bringing them fully to life. would love to see East Coastway get this treatment (it's currently way too devoid of life between Lewes and Eastbourne due to the missing services there) and i can't help but imagine what the Fife Circle timetable would look like if Joethefish got his hands on it, it would just be incredible.. granted with it being a rivet product that will probably never happen, but all i can say is looking at what Joe has done here, he would work absolute miracles on Fife Circle A girl can only dream!
It's just to stop trains hogging platforms, so when AWC possibly come, then the timetable doesn't need reworking again. It's the same concept as the Lumo/ Hull trains Azumas on ECML.
Checkout the pc editor discussion forum, a member has made a very good East Coastway new timetable which adds just about everything possible that was really there, if you have the dlc's.
Which is great, but us console players are left with our faces pressed up against the window with these things.
i wish i could but i'm on ps5 (i'd love to have a go on the pc editor, with the ultimate aim of creating my own route there and then playing it on my ps5, but that's not possible either) i do love the game on ps5 and i'm perfectly happy on there.. i just wish routes had a fully utilised timetable, London Commuter is a great example of what can be done.. i wish that level of timetable detail was present of East Coastway (and Fife Circle!)
Maybe one day you'll be able to upgrade to a pc? I actually play on a gaming laptop and finds it works very well. They take up much less room than a pc setup.
