As I cannot find anywhere to post this I shall post it here. I am in the process of changing my ISP which also means changing my email address. These forums have no way for you to change it and the only way to do it is by creating a new account. I was previously trev123 on here but now I'm trevkiwi. A bit of a stupid way to change your email address and out of the 50 or so that I have changed this is probably the most stupid one. Come on DTG you need to make this easier. This question has been asked before and they all come up with the same answer you need to create a new account.
Have you contacted support? Btw, I stick to using an ISP independent free email address for signing up anywhere, which is only used for that purpose.
Yes, my new ISP doesn't have email accounts so I'm changing all my contacts over to my Gmail account. No, I haven't contacted support but in a post that I found here through google the person contacted DTG and they told them you have to make a new account as DTGs forums don't have a function for you to change your email address which I find rather strange.
This reply from DTG support. " Changing your email address can have a substantial impact on a number of integrated services that rely on your email address to identify you and keep your account secure. We are, therefore, not able to support making changes to your email address and recommend you create a new account if you wish to use an alternative address or no longer have access to the email address you registered with."
tl:dr We are completely incompetent, inept and incapable, but we are really really good at making excuses so we got that going for us..
My thoughts exactly. I mistyped my new email address for Just Trains and couldn't log in with my old address or new one so I emailed JT and they sorted it out for me with no problems so now I can log in with my new address.
One of the reasons I stick with BT as my ISP despite the cost is the sheer problem no longer having access to the associated email accounts would cause. At one point I did have domain email when I had server space with a web host but then that collapsed those went with it too and cheap web hosting is a thing of the past now (plus I had no interest in keeping the site going). The problem with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo etc. certainly used to be that some places will not accept them as a valid and secure email address.
I have had no problems with Gmail. ISPs are now dropping email services so you are stuck with Gmail etc.
I literally have my own domain for this purpose, just to know I always have control over the email addresses on it.
I have used gmail and hotmail for years. I have one of each email addy's that i use all over the web without problems. Better not to be tied to an ISP email account.
