Hoping someone can clarify this question:

When switching cabs in this scenario, are you supposed to release the brakes in the cab you are vacating before switching to the cab at the other end to head in the other direction? The tutorial hints do not say to do this, but the only way I can get the now front power unit to accelerate properly is if the brakes in the trailing unit are set to Release.

Is this how it is supposed to work in real life as well?

    Hi KevJag,

The process to change ends in the real HST is as follows (extracted from the British Rail HST Operating Manual):
    1. With the train stationary, move the brake controller to full service.
    2. Set the DRA, move the master switch to off and remove the master key.
    3. Check the brake pipe pressure falls to zero and the brake cylinder pressure rises to its maximum and holds.
    4. Switch off the ETS, wait 3 seconds and switch the ETS back on by holding the button for 10 seconds and ensuring the indicator light remains illuminated.
    5. Set external lights as required.
    6. Switch off all interior and cab lights and close all windows. Lock cab doors and proceed to the other power car.
    7. Upon entering the other power car, ensure the brake controller is in full service, insert the master key and move the master switch to engine only.
    8. Press and release the AWS reset button and ensure that the desk indicator lights illuminated. Check the DRA is set.
    9. Set the exterior lights as required.
    10. Move the brake controller to step 2 and ensure the brake pipe rises to approx 4.35 bar and the brake cylinder pressure falls to a holding brake application.
    Hope this helps.

    Best, Steve

Regarding Step 4.....An update to GWE a while back broke the ETS on light so it no longer illuminates. You now have to rely on the increase in engine revs to know it’s actually on.

So KevJag, put the brake to full service in the rear cab, then reverser to off and "remove" the master key.
If you think about it, you wouldn't leave a train with the brakes released while you walk down to the other end? :)
