How do I properly use the Class 08 marker lights? Do operators in real life keep both the red and white lights on at the same time to let everyone know the train is operational or ???

I *think* you only need the white light on the front and the red light on the back?

The problem is that when shunting, "front" and "back" don't really exist.

In Ireland anyway, when our locos are shunting even the main line locos (Class 071 and 201), the marker lights are put into shunting mode. This gives a red LED one one side and a white LED on the other, it's up to the drivers if this is on both loco ends or not.

The Class 08 seems to be the same. As said above, seeing as there is not front or back during shunting, a red and white either side covers you.

Yeah I’d have said for shunting it’d be a red and white on front and back, but for main line running I’d just put white on the front

Yeh I echo the others, when shunting you have both red and white showing both ends. It shows other people around the track that this engine will change direction regularly and save the driver having to flick all the switches every time.

If you are travelling out on the mainline then you’d put just a white light at the front and red at the back.
