Hi, I have just installed the Armstrong Powerhouse Class 101 sound pack and now, no matter what I try, I cannot get the Class 101 train to increase speed beyond approx. 30mph. I have played scenarios and quick drive with this train with no issues before but now I cannot go beyond this speed. Has anyone had anything similar happen or have any ideas what I can do?
Are you trying to play the train in Simple mode or Expert? If you have driven the Class 101 you will know like a Car you have to go thru the Gears to increase speed Look at the RPM gauge If you are in the high revs you need shut off and to change up a gear The keyboard letter to change the Gear on the AP version of the 101 operates differently to the normal version
I am trying on expert mode, which is how I have played all the time. When playing on simple, the speed goes up fine because there isn't really anything to do control wise but on expert, no matter how many times I have tried, it hits roughly 30mph or so and then starts automatically starts slowing down no matter what I do. It doesn't even maintain the speed, it just slows to a halt.
Do you have a car? When you are in first gear and the revs max out you change up Think of the 101 as a big truck/lorry When you get to about 18 mph you change gear from first to second, second to third around 28mph, third to fourth at 40mph In fourth gear you will be able to do 70mh on the level If you are not going past 30 mph you have not changed up a gear But if you are going up a steep gradient you might need to change down a gear And I don't understand how you drove the normal version as the AP is not that much different
Yes I understand the gears revs etc. I have had no problems with it until I installed the AP sound pack and now I cannot get above 35 mph. I don't have a problem driving it at all its the fact that all acceleration stops around 35mph that is the problem. I just don't think a sound pack could affect the play of the game. I have just installed the AP sound pack for class 57 and that is fine. Being new to the train sim world I assumed I had done something wrong and that is why I was asking you guys if this was something that had occurred before or if I have just messed up. Thanks for taking the time to try and help. Much appreciated.
Have you checked this too? IMPORTANT NOTE: If using a non-AP variant of the unit, the gear lever will be visible on the HUD, but is reversed due to a Train Simulator limitation. Therefore, ‘400’ is first gear, ‘300’ is second gear, ‘200’ is third gear and ‘100’ is fourth gear. Have you tried it in this scenario: APC101P: 2B22 10:44 Exeter St. Davids - Paignton Route = Riviera Line ? pH
Hi Peter Thanks very much for the info. I thought it strange that everything was fine until the AP Sound pack was installed. You were right the non AP gears work in reverse order and the AP ones are as normal. Since you informed me of this everything works fine now. I really like the look of the Riviera line and it next on my ' To Buy ' list. Just waiting to see if Steam have a sale soon. Thanks again for the help Cheers
I did mention is post #2 "The keyboard letter to change the Gear on the AP version of the 101 operates differently to the normal version"
Apologies for the thread bump but I came across this thread whilst searching for the answers to something I have noticed regarding the AP DMU sound pack. When applied to the DTG/RSC class 101, 105, 117 and 121 the gears work as expected with gear one being in the correct position etc. However I was driving the Vulcan Productions class 118 and wondered why it accelerated very slowly from a standstill in gear one yet when I finally got to around 15 mph and I changed into what I thought was gear 2 it suddenly started accelerating as expected. It appears that the VP class 118 and the NSR 117 (AP sound pack) which the VP class 118 is based on, have the gears in the reverse position, i.e. gear 4 on the selector is gear 1 in the sim. Now I know I can deal with it but it seems odd that it applied differently to the NSR 117 (and VP 118) than to the other variants. I have double checked and they are definitely using the AP sounds.
If VP have change something in the scripting of the 117 that might be why the gear change is not like standard You could try reinstalling the sound pack and that might fix the problem Peter
Hi, I did think about doing that but when it worked on the other units (class 101 etc) correctly I ruled it out. But, however it might be worthwhile. Now I know that the gears are in reverse and first is in fourth position I can live with it but it won't do any harm to reinstall the sound pack. Thanks.
If you installed the VP 118/117 after the AP Sound pack the files to make the gears work the correct way would not have been copied across Peter
Peter you are a genius. Reinstalling the sound pack has done the trick which should have been obvious to me in the first place. Although I am sure the NSR was installed before I installed the AP sound pack and that had the same issue unless a steam update had altered the files or I am losing my mind.
