I have tried to drive the class 117 on the BHBP route that is available from Alan Thompson's classic train simulator website and I drove this DMU in free roam and found that you have to manually change the gears in the driver's cab. The window that you can bring up the 'simple view of the controls used to have the gears icon when driving DMU trains and this time, I have found that it is missing using the control view window. I seem to have found that when you manually change the gears in the cab, you can only select 4 or 1st gear. In the past, (I haven't driven a DMU for quite a while in train simulator) you could select any of the four gears to help the momentum of the DMU as you drive. I struggled to climb a gradient between Calstock and Gunnislake in the free route BHBP. I am unsure what is going wrong here as they used to drive DMU's on this branch line in the past in real life. Any ideas?
Hi Gary, I haven't tried it on another route. I have found out that I did purchase the enhancement pack for the class 117 from Armstrong Powerhouse a while ago and I have just installed it and found that it has finally worked! As there are so many add on third party content for the simulator, I had forgotten about it. All is great now. Thanks for your question.
