DTG - Would be great to create a decent Class 158 in Regional Railways / Original 90s livery. It could be added to quite a few routes such as WCL, NTP, Tees Valley, East Coastway, Tees Valley, BML I know technically the only route that would be true 90s era would be WCL, but with a bit of imagination ( or multiple livery options ) I am sure it can be done. And now the physics model of the 166 has been perfectly updated the 158 is practically identical to the 166s. ( maybe a tad faster acceleration ) I can’t imagine there would be a huge amount to change in that department. Aren’t they wonderful ? DTG ONLY THOUGH - No way do we let rivet ruin another 2nd Gen DMU ( sorry, i can’t credit the photographer, Just grabbed it off Google so no idea who took it )
Well as a “Provincial” DMU Controller at Swindon when these were first introduced, they were not without teething problems. But they were far superior to the dreadful 155’s which had us tearing our hair out most shifts with poor availability and failures in traffic. Along with the very similar Class 159’s, probably the best of the second gen DMU’s. Lovely engine sound sitting in the saloon, comfortable seats at least as built and large picture windows. The only drawback as with most Regional Railways ideas, was building the majority as 2 car rather than 3 car units which caused capacity issues at busy times particularly as a 2 car 158 only had 138 seats compared to 160 on a 155.
