yes! It is official, class 175s will be making their way to GWR and running the Exeter to Penzance services, as well as Exeter to Barnstaple, Exeter to Okehampton. And Even Occasionally on the Truro to Falmouth line as well. If they run on the Truro to Falmouth Line. This is the first time in 10 years, Cornwall has some different stock for the Cornish Mainline. Very Exciting news for Cornwall I must say, and it’s good to have some variety down here for once!
Interesting. I wondered how long the Class 175's would be stored out of service so it is good that further use has been found for them.
They're fantastic trains. I was sad to see them leave south Wales, the 197s are a downgrade on the marches route. I know their reliability doesn't have a great track record, however Arriva took good care of them and they didn't have as many problems under them.
Unfortunately their arrival will end the days of the final few HST's working in the south west. The class 158's are being cascaded onto the cardiff/Bristol to Portsmouth services too. All this means that there won't actually be many, if any extra trains in the south west. In fact the new timetables show no new services for the moment in Cornwall.
Where have people gotten the idea Networkers are leaving GWR? I haven't read anything suggesting it in Modern Railways or the Railway Magazine. It's well known GWR are chronically short of regional DMUs, there's no way they'd get rid of the few they do have.
from... CharlieJay... Alright, maybe the Networkers aren't going after all... CharlieJay, can you provide a source for the Turbos leaving please?
According to this month's Modern Railway's GWR have just completed the refurbishment programme for the Turbos. No way they're leaving any time soon. The 175s are to replace the last remaining short HSTs, as well as releasing 800s from local services and put back on mainline trains. The plan is to use the 175s throughout the west country to free up 158s for the Portsmouth to Cardiff route, thus enabling more Networkers for local services around Bristol.
