No Scottish route from the 1960s to early 1990s would be without this little warrior. Apart from the West Highland lines which rarely saw them. A true mixed traffic type 2 seen on stopping passenger express passenger in pairs, coal trains from local pick up to MGR (a batch had Slow speed control) and everything else that could be thought of. Liveries go from Green to Blue to Railfreight and Civil Engineers. Quite why we don't have one is a surprise and I know there was a version produced years back. A gaping hole in Scottish diesel fleets needing to be plugged.
+1 several times over to this request. Would be great to run one to Kyle and back even if the route period is one. As you say the earlier model is showing it’s age and never quite captured the iconic Sulzer splutter and throb.
Yes, would be a very good traction to update. Amazing for a small fleet that they served BR for 34 years outliving every type 2 loco except the venerable Class 31. Given that they span 5 decades and were omnipresent in Scotland I'd love to drive a version that feels and sounds like the real thing.
I can't figure out why we haven't got one especially as quite a few survived and are regular at diesel events.
