    Hi,

I've tried looking everywhere for an answer to this, but apologies if this has already been asked before.

I had an emergency brake application in a class 66. After comming to a stop, I pressed the AWS reset plunger and popped up the emergency pluger. The brake demand light would not go out, so after a few minutes I pressed the emrgency plunger again a few times and the brake demand light eventually did go out.

Now the brake pipe is at zero (see screenshot) and I can't release the train brakes. I've tried removing and reinserting the key and the reverser is in neutral. Please help, what am I missing or doing wrong?

    Which Class 66 is that?

You may have to set the reverser to neutral, do a manual emergeny application by moving the brake handle (hold it), and then release it again. That's the logic for US locos - which the 66 technically is.

Good question! So it’s at AP 66 EP version. I tried the same situation with one of the DTG versions and had no issue releasing the brakes, so I wonder if it’s a bug with the AP version. I’ll contact them. Thanks.

Don't have this one, but I'm sure it comes with a comprehensive manual. Have you checked that?

Thanks. Yes their manuals are usually pretty in-depth, but I had a look and I don't see any mention about recovering from an emergency brake or when tripped by not responding to an AWS warning.

Just in case, I thought maybe it might be more obvious what I'm doing wrong (I'm sure it's something I'm doing or not doing) for me to show what's happening, so here's a video of me starting the loco, applying the emergency brake and then getting stuck and not being able to release the brakes: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0d38vD0L6k3M1bXpfV6xDp-KA#emergencybrake.mp4

    iirc.
Brake lever to full (maximum pressure on the gauge) Throttle off,
    Reverser to Neutral,
Press Emergency plunger (if up) and then click on it again to release/pull it back up,
Wait (insert time here - can't remember exactly but I think it's 90 seconds) for the Train Stop Override fault light to extinguish,
Once light is extinguished reverser into forward and release brakes.

Sorry if I've missed a step but it's from memory and it's been a bit since I drove a 66.

I think it is bugged under certain circumstances, I drive the 66 alot & there have been a few instances where they refused to release.

Yes thank you Reef! That's worked. I'm not sure exactly what step I was getting out of order, but if I run through these steps in this exact order, the brakes release:

    Train is moving...
    1. Hit emergency brake (down postition) and wait until train stops
    2. Move reverser into neutral (s key)
    3. Hit emergency brake again so it's in the up position
    4. Move reverser into forward (w key)
    5. Release the train brake (semi-colon key)

    Much appreciated :)

    Very helpful :)
I had a brake application for no real reason - doing 10mph approaching a yellow signal.
After a bit I gave up on it.
