Is it just me or is the sound of the BR Class 700 on SEHS too low, both the motor sounds and the in cab AWS pings and alarms? PS. Why are we unable to create a thread in the player feedback section of the forums?
The audio level is sort of alright on its own if a little on the quiet side. The problem is that everything else on SEHS seems to be oriented to a different standard. A TSW Class 465 going past a TSW Class 700 sounds like a massive freight train in comparison.
Low volume? Not a problem for me. There are sounds that are actually too quite though, like the AC sounds and others are just nonexistent
It's not from tsc. It's recorded from a real 350 because dtg couldn't get recordings from a moving 700. The ac sounds are from armstrong who also never gave dc sounds for dtg to use.
I mean the sounds are originally used in TSC. Why did DTG start on a train they cant fully accurately represent
Real life gets in the way that dtg can't predict. They can plan all they want and things change up to the last minute. The railroad has a schedule to run and recording sounds is low priority since it can cause disruptions. There could be bad weather or all the trains are used because some broke down, etc. You can't just quickly make another appointment since it's preset in advance. No guarantee a train is available. Otherwise we would have zero trains in tsw or the same exact train reused to eternity. Lots of trains are not recorded from the real thing. They couldn't just throw away a project they spent thousands of dollars and several months on. That's a huge financial loss if dtg did it for every single release.
The short answer is yes. They got the balance between interior and exterior wrong so if you turn up the speakers, passing trains blow them out. The sound mix itself is poor with quite evident looping. PC players luckily can access a mod which makes it better but ultimately you can’t really polish a turd. AFAIR, the DTG response to complaints was the usual shoulder shrug/middle finger/ it is what it is/no plans to improve or change/take it or leave it. Only glad I got mine at a bundle price and not the full £12.
How about this: Chief dev or whatever pitches idea to developers and everyone else, if they agree, they find out if they will be able to collect the required pictures and recordings to produce the DLC in the most realistic way possible. If they cant, drop the project, if they can, continue and produce a high quality product
Ideally this would be the case but you will always get those who would rather have the train with incorrect sounds than not at all. Personally I would only go with that if recreating a lost type of traction for which no preserved examples or even reference recordings exist (e.g. the original Blue Pullman units) but whatever sounds are used should still be well mixed and properly balanced.
The irony is, some of the Class 700 sounds came from AP but the DTG audio team seem to have botched it.
Armstrong seems to also not have 700 dc sounds and seems to have used the sound recordings of a different train (444/450) without getting permission from the original owner of the sounds. They even left out certain sounds and it seems to have been rushed. You can also watch the entire video for a review of the pack which is also not positive. Link included below and it is the top comment.
The thing is, using 450 sounds still would’ve been better, if they did you wouldn’t really be able to tell the difference between an 700 & 450/444 unless you really listen for it.
Tbh ive never noticed. But they did an amazing job, if they did use 450/444 sounds they managed to make the phase change at 30 without the audio audibly looping so its a W from me
