Discussion thread for the class 769s that are currently undergoing tests from kilmarnock.

One possibility I can think of is that they're replacing 156s on routes such as Kilmarnock, and ayr-girvan-stranraer (whenever that reopens) and potentially fife circle and the leven branch. While 156s would either continue to operate the longer distance services (For example Carlisle to Glasgow or onto the West Highland line) or would be replaced by 158s.

I caught a pair of them at Newton-on-ayr yesterday which were undergoing tests. As you can see they are in scotrail blue compared to the GWR livery they had before. Although they still have their GWR seating

According the the owners of the units they're up here for maintenance.

My only theory, if ScotRail are getting them, is to make better use of the Barrhead OLE section for East Kilbride (possibly Kilmarnock) services, making the line a bit better.

Don't see anywhere else for them, really.
