When starting a service in the rain with the Class 801, the rain collects on the windshield as normal, until the wipers are turned on, at which time the windshield is cleared of rain as expected. However, upon driving the windshield becomes completely clear, and the wipers can be turned off as no more rain collects on the windshield, for as long as the service lasts. The rain does still collect on the rear windshield. In addition, there is no penalty applied for "no wipers," even if it rained the whole time. Is this a known problem? I haven't been able to find out much about it on the forum. I have put in a ticket but I still don't know if this problem is global or just Series S. Or maybe it's just me.

The windshield becoming completely clear is probably due to the camera moving too far away from the train. It then unloads the rain from the windshield to save memory. This is most noticeable in snow. When you move closer again, the rain will start to fall on the windshield again (but it will have to start with a clear windshield).

As for the rain not landing on the windshield while the train is moving, I think the issue is that the rain is too slow:

It looks (to me) like the game only generates rain from a small circle above the player. That circle has a limited radius.

When you move the free camera fast enough, the rain can't fall in front of you quickly enough, so you'll see no rain. When you then stop moving, the rain catches up. The same thing applies to the trains that you drive. The rain is not fast enough, so only falls on the roof of the train, instead of the windshield. When you slow down, the rain will start falling on the windshield again.

I don't think DTG have ever confirmed any of what I said above - these are simply my observations.

Driving the 801 in the rain just now, starting from cloudy, and I had no indication from the cab that it had even started raining until I went to an external camera.

Even then, the only camera to show rain is the static drive-by cam.

There is absolutely nothing appearing on the windscreen of the driver's cab, this definitely seems like more of a bug.

Interestingly, after loading back in to the timetable due to a SPAD on my part at Peterborough, rain was visible from the cab, and on the cab front and side windows, but as soon as I switched to an external camera and back again, the rain decals on all three cab windows disappeared, although rain could still be observed falling.

Once stopped at Peterborough, rain was only showing on the top middle headlight of the 801, nowhere else, not even on the windows of the passenger cars.

No wipers in rain penalty was applied though, likely because I had no clue that it had started to fall!

DTG Matt DTG Alex DTG Jamie DTG JD DTG Harry are the team aware?
