Perhaps you should try to resetting the PCS, it’s described in other manuals. But I am no sure if the brake system of an F7 and SD40 works the same as the newer models.

Keep the brake in emergency on the automatic handle then apply the independent brake into full, release the emergency brake on the automatic handle then fully release the independent brake

Side notes : sometimes I find given it a few seconds between the 4 steps help and putting the direction in neutral whilst doing this also seems to help

Once the train comes to a stop, put the reverser back into neutral and move the brake handle out of emergency, then check the PCS light in the cab, it should turn off.

The wretched PCS always catches me out in Run 8, usually if you open the angle c0ck to full rather than half after coupling to a long train. Albeit at least in R8 you get a quick release cheat command to undo it...

I have accidentally applied it myself and I learned that you have to be really patient.

I've found that you can cut the brakes out and then back in to cheat PCS if you don't want to do it the prototypical way. If you've had an emergency application, it doesn't really save you much time, but if you just popped the PCS, it's much quicker.

I've only tripped the PCS on the SD40, so I'm not sure if it's the same on the F7.
    Throttle to idle
    Reverser to neutral
    Independent brake to full service
    Automatic brake to Emergency
    Wait 60 seconds
    Release auto brake
    Throttle to notch1
Wait for 90 psi in brake pipe, 140 psi in main reservoir
    Throttle to idle.
    Release independent brake.
    Set Reverser, Apply throttle
    (from DTG Manual)

Release the Automatic brake and then set the Reverser to Neutral and switch it to forward. That’s how I recovered from Emergency brake application when driving the F7.
