I always found Clinchfield Railroad to be "Snowrunner on rails" in the way that the majority of timetables is delivering freight through mountains at 10-30mph. You're just doing it with trains instead of trucks. Although the route is very slow, and that puts a lot of people off routes like this, I always found it pretty chill, laid-back, and a great change of pace from fast passenger routes like Peninsula Corridor and ECML... Plus it's set in the 1970s and I love "proper" old locomotives like the F7. Are there any future DLC routes like this planned, that have a nice slow freight pace, or are there any existing routes out there that are similar? I know West Somerset Railway is slow, but that's a totally different kind of thing.
Dtg couldn't tell you what future content is releasing. If it's not on the roadmap, it's not coming. It's in all the us freight routes. Like spg, sherman, hsc, cane Creek
Sadly there still really is nothing quite like Clinchfield. A very rough gem that needs some love for all its well known glitches, but stands out shining among US freight routes.
A gem of DTG's early TSW 2 days that really could of used a few loco DLC's, but abandoned shortly after release. Matt was supposed to work on some fixes for it, but I doubt DTG is gonna make anything like this again.
I sure wish DTG Pull UP would green light Matts Clinchfield remaster project ..so we can get a refreshed visually route and add CSX freight layers both playable and AI even add the pre csx DLC like family lines ,seaboard system SCL skins etc
Yes it’s a lovely route, helped by the period setting and classic diesels. Surely there must be some other contenders in the US and without necessarily going back to the steam era. Some of the Pacific Northwest logging railroads would be good contenders. I seem to recall reading about an extensive short line near Mount Shasta, McCloud Railway possibly? Or something like the old NYC heading up through the Adirondacks through Saranac Lake (I think) to Malone Junction.
1 modern route that would fit the 15 to 30 range is the NS CSX joint coal operaton in southwestern PA former Monongahela RR West Brownsville to Waynesburg and Manor Branch to the Huge Bailey mine complex this route is in TSC but its 50 or so miles it would fit TSW would have modern NS CSX power coal loading serving Bailey Emerald and Alicia mines and a rail to barge facility ..but with the majority who play TSW it would be too slow and boring for them and woulnt sell
Clinchfield is one of my favorite routes and still play it to this day. The services and how they all chain together has not been bettered since imo Plus I have a soft spot for the streamliners and had great fun making a skin for the old Aussie 44 & 421 class locos (the one and only time I have touched the livery editor)
McCloud stopped operating in 2010, they only recently reopened, but only for storing cars. I know Matt mentioned awhile ago they had interest in Canadian National's Ore trains in Minnesota, wonder if that could be revisited....
Clinchfield is one of my favourites. I picked up horseshoe curve in the sale and must say I'm liking it just as much.
yes Hsc is a favorite of mine also basically for me my top favorite US routes in TSW are SPG HSC Clinchfield and Cajon those 4 i play most then sherman hill and CN oakville
In my opinion, Clinchfield is the best freight route available, with Sand Patch Grade coming right behind it. What makes them stand out above the rest is the variety of services, from challenging mainline driving, to spur branches filled with coal loading and shunting. A distant third would be Oakville, which has the unique ethanol loading facilities, but this opportunity is mostly squandered, as it only works properly in scenarios. The mainline is quite short, and the missing passenger traffic makes it quite boring. By comparison, the likes of Horseshoe Curve, Cane Creek, Sherman Hill and Cajon Pass only offer mainline driving, with a little bit of yard shunting.
Yes I can say I'm enjoying the route, I put off buying it for so long because of bad reviews. Should have known better. I wish I had of bought this over cane creek some time ago.
It's not a matter of pullup entertainment saying yes Remasters are done in a devs own free time and matt is busy with other things and he works on the remaster when he has extra time. It's also only him working on it so it's going to take even longer
matt was working on updating the timetable. I'm personally waiting on that before I return to the route.
Does it have to be US stuff? There's lots of German stuff too like Semmeringbahn and Voralberg that are in the mountains for slow, scenic drives. The narrow gauge stuff too (forget the names, but they look pretty on videos)
So after spending a bit of time on horseshoe curve, I'm starting to think the scenery is a lot nicer than Clinchfield. I'd definitely grab it if you don't own it already.
HSC is a skyhook route and Clinchfield is older and ported from TSC but Clinchfield definitely deserves a remaster..booted up my free TSW a bit ago then chose my first owned route and Sand Patch took the honor of first DLC to go to tsw 5 clinchfield and HSC not in yet so will have to wait till they join the list...otherwise i downloaded peninsula corridor
